for the love of all things holy, please PLEASE PLEASE fix this
i hate casting utsusemi: ni on myself only to be locked for 5 seconds staring at my character doing nothing, this is stupid and needs to be fixed 7 years ago
PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS ALREADY

There's nothing to "fix" as it is working exactly as designed. There was a time long ago when it didn't exist, they added it for a reason I don't remember. ^^;
Still, I doubt that reason matters anymore.

Seriously, this gives me the biggest headache as a DD job. Sometimes I'm stuck for 5~15 seconds form march+haste+protect+shell+cure

Actually the really irritating aspect is if you're already in motion, the spell lock doesn't happen...

They do event cancelled because a spell being cast on you by a player is basically the same as if a mob took action against you. And if they tried to fix that we all know what would happen.
Theoretical broke FFXI: Mob aggros, player runs to OP, talks to OP, mob loses aggro.
Over-powered and broken to say the least.
...But that's why we have test servers.

Someone would have to try really hard to keep you stuck for over a minute.

actually tsukino it has always existed, they tried fixing it once before but it didnt work

I seem to have a vague memory of one update some years ago where the spell-locking was supposed to be fixed, like - 4 years ago or something? And if anything, it got worse after that, it certainly didn't get better. And I really wish SE would fix it somehow - like a few days ago I died to Bukhis, got up, Mijin Gakured, got up again and my whm cast cure, shell and haste on me as I was getting up. The result? On my screen my character immediately plopped back down on the ground, dead - and stayed that way till the whm had finished casting all the spells on me, leaving me seemingly dead, unable to move/get up and certainly unable to continue fighting Bukhis. ><

locking for cure was specifically reduced in an update. But it only applies to cure.

actually, that was put into place as it was one of the ways used to beat AV back in the day

It did work. It wasn't eliminated, only reduced. Meaning CURE specifically doesn't lock you AS LONG as other spells.

It bothered me as a whm when getting brd songs on me... and recently while I was chased by a train of goblins I was unable to run before I was even dead :/ Thought it was a problem with my connection though.
