View Full Version : I'd like to Enter Storyline Battlefields Freely

Have you ever wanted to just fight a boss for fun? I do. I would love to enter old storyline battlefields freely just to fight them. Including the Final Boss of that story!

Some people actually take pride in beating another team's time. I do, at least. Beating a powerful enemy, practicing with new jobs and attempting to beat another Player or Team's time would be a lot of fun!

Imagine going to fight Shadow Lord with his epic music playing in the background as you and your team fight with all they have in order to secure their place as the fastest time?

Here is my suggestion in more detail:

1) New Goblin NPCs get stationed outside the entrances to battlefields. Those goblins do many things!

Purchase a temp. item with a small amount of gil that you trade to the battlefield entrance in order to allow passage.
Check the current top 3 times so players know what to shoot for.
Have the goblin set special rules that may affect your reward, such as "No Summoners" or "Must perform a Light Skillchain."

2) A Goblin in Jeuno that can provide information on times and "Rules" for each battlefield for the next 3 days (so people can plan ahead).

3) Depending on how well you place, the reward is stronger. For example, getting the 3rd best time, everyone receives 10,000 gil. 2nd best, everyone receives 15,000 gil, and 3rd place everyone gets 20,000 gil. If the conditions set by the goblin are met, such as no Summoners or the Light Skillchain, additional items can be given as a reward. Maybe some items can only be obtained in this way!'

4) Maybe have different conditions for teams with fewer members, like increasing the prize money if you have fewer people in the party!

5) Times are pre-set at 10 minutes for first prize, 15 minutes for 2nd prize and 20 minutes for 3rd prize. Only beating these times will have the party leader's name replaced by the original pre-set time.

6) Times reset after every conquest tally so no one can monopolize a time forever.

7) Anyone can attempt this as many times as they want until they succeed. After actually winning, a team cannot try again for another 24 Earth hours.

This way, everyone can re-live some of the greatest moments in the game while also having both a benefit to it and a form of competition. It would be great fun and I would LOVE to just battle it out against those big bosses again!

I've always wanted to myself. I thought they could make a special area similar to the Colosseum and have players choose which boss they would like to fight. I can't imagine it being that hard to warp the player directly into the bcnm to do it, would be fun also. Maybe add a reward system so they can be exchanged for cool looking gear(not really made for fighting).

I would love a feature like this. level caps included.
Mission 5.1 was my favorite to try to solo or duo at level 50.
I helped every chance I got just to do the fight again.

What I've wanted to do for awhile now is a bit different. I just wish I could reset my CoP progress; erase it from my mission log (while still keeping my rewards like Rajas Ring, of course :p), so I can do all the missions again. I reallllly wanna solo through the whole thing, watching the cutscenes again all in one chunk. Yes, I know I could watch the cutscenes using the Bard NPCs and Goblin Footprints (and I have before), but it'd be a lot more fun to me to actually do the missions again, solo.

I was actually thinking of suggesting this same idea a while ago. I always enjoy doing the final boss fight for the RotZ missions, and jump at the chance to help others since it's not exactly repeatable. I really like this idea ^^

I would also enjoy the opportunity to revisit storyline battlefields. The OP has some good ideas worth considering!

I also agree, personally ive wished for this for a long time. The one thing I would add would be optional level caps set at the original level IE 75 Shadow Lord, DM, Promathia, Alexander etc. and Uncapped. Intervols inbetween such as 80, 85 might be nice but aren't as nessessary. I actually would go and enter the Promathia Fight solo just for fun back before I completed it, and now that I can't I really miss it. Which now that I think about it no exp loss like the originals would be nice as well.

There are fights people just love doing over and over again, usually the COP ones. This is a good idea, andthere should be rewards for doing it, too!

I like it...I wouldn't mind fighting alot of the mission bosses again, or going through and just doing something strange like fighting all 3 nation 2-3 dragons again

It's a great idea actually, they just need the mission battle to drop things for this version, add 5k-10k exp for completion of the missions. Maybe items needed for AF1-2 plus versions, also dynamis currency. Heck if they add another magian trials where you need items dropped from completing this missions, you will see how very popular this will become :)

Great idea. What I'd give to play with Promathia again, but my LS have all completed it. One suggestion, though? To stop people spamming and spamming it for bonus exp (Looking at you, Promathia missions) it may be wise to implement exp being doled out for BC completion the first time it's completed only. Or exp being rewarded only once a real-life day.

>.>; this is why you're supposed to help newer players with their missions. sure, you get a pittance of xp, but you also score some good karma for helping someone out!

Have the goblin set special rules that may affect your reward, such as "No Summoners" or "Must perform a Light Skillchain."

I thought "no summoners" was a permanent rule in FFXI.

lol no summoners? Because SMN is totally the most imba class....

Dunno if anyone's said this yet (or if I've misunderstood), but I'll say it anyway just in case:

The thought of winning certain items for certain restrictions sounds cool, but would it mean that maybe everyone could do their own restriction? One thing I often see people opting out of something for is that there's "nothing in it for them." So maybe there would be a way for everyone to choose their own restriction to get their own item, but still enter the same battlefield? Obviously the restrictions wouldn't have to be too difficult; that way people could group together with different rules for each of them, everyone could help each other out, and all could get the items they want.

For example, person A wants an item they can only get with the rule "no summoners". Person B wants an item that they can only get with "must perform a light skillchain." That's easy enough for a group to accomplish; going into a battlefield without a summoner in the party and performing a light skillchain. But maybe person C wants to join, and they want an item with the rule "must perform a magic burst." Well, that's easy to fit in, too, so they could join the same group. All three can set their respective rule, and each gets the reward they want!

Again, sorry if anyone's already suggested this; I thought it would be interesting to toss that idea in ^^; I love this idea to bits; I've always wanted to fight the usual missions, but I'm stuck with either the rematch against the +1 version or waiting until someone wants to get off their butt to do the mission, so this idea is pretty awesome.

@Luvbunny: while those rewards seem tempting, I think that would be way too much when it comes to that exp. 5k alone is a lot of exp to get from a single task (at least in my opinion, not sure about anyone else); I doubt we'll be handed that much quite so easily unless square puts a really icky timer on these rematch quests, which I'm sure no one would like x_x

Mirage

5k exp is nothing, is what you get for a single dominion op, which you can do as often as you want.

5k exp for a mission fight at a maximum of once per day is no problem.

Eiyoko
04-18-2011, 05:44 PM
I get what you're saying and I agree, but I was mainly thinking about the lower level mission battlefields (sorry for not being clear ^^) For example, handing out 5k exp for beating the rank 3 dragon fight or a promyvion boss fight would probably be way too much since they're only level 25 and 30 respectively. Now, if you were looking at something much higher level, like maybe one of the final bosses, then 5k as a supposed exp reward would make a bit more sense. At least, that's what I think. /2 gil

lol no summoners? Because SMN is totally the most imba class....

That must be why I've been the only SMN in my endgame LS for 6 years. (The rest quit or changed jobs because they were never allowed to go to events on SMN. I got to be SMN for lacking "better jobs" and for being a whiny bastard who daily said I didn't want to be another class)

Of course, for Tiamat and Cerberus we let some come SMN because those cases SMN was "good". Rest of the game the job was "bad".

I do admit though, that it is 80% community opinion, and 20% the Summoner class itself that is the problem. I just haven't figured out how to convince 1800 people on my server that Summoner is worth inviting.

I hate to continue the derail even further, but I personally would gladly {Bind} a Summoner to my hip so I wouldn't have to bother with Hasting everybody individually! d^.^

I really like the idea, sometimes it's difficult to find new players on the exact battlefield you want, so being able to fight the battle you want, whenever you want, would be a great implementation to the game.

Thanks for the suggestions on entering storyline battlefields! It’d definitely be awesome to throw down with Promathia or Shadow Lord whenever you feel like letting off some steam. :)

After talking to the dev. team, while it might not be implemented exactly as suggested, they are looking into various methods that will allow you to challenge your favorite bosses when you feel the lust for battle overtake you!

I have a new idea. Maybe have the boss be upscaled in level according to the highest level in the party. Kind of like the boss level-syncing to your group. The higher level the boss is, the better the reward.

Imagine a level 99 Shadow Lord ^_^

Even if not, having the option to fight a more difficult version of a past boss would be fun as well. Some storyline bosses are very easy now since the required level limit has been dropped. Shikaree X, Y and Z come to mind, as does Ultima and Omega from the Airship battles.

So I suppose that's my 2nd request. Allow free access for fun and also allow stronger versions of the boss for more challenge while offering rewards for doing them again.

Actually, maybe they can be treated like Burning Circle bosses and offer gear you can't get anywhere else?

Oh! Maybe have the Kindred and High Kindred Crests open up the more powerful versions of these bosses! Like an "Abyssal Shadow Lord" or "Abyssal Kam'lanaut."

Sorry I'm thinking while writing, haha. So maybe instead of a time trial, it can work more like BCNMs like this:

Fight the original boss for fun: Enter freely and just a small exp and gil reward.
Fight a stronger boss for items: Trade Beastmen Seals
Fight an even stronger boss for powerful items: Trade Kindread Seals
Fight "level 99" versions of the boss for rare items: Trade Kindread Crests
Fight Alliance-level bosses for fight-exclusive level 99 Gear that follow Abyssea rules: Trade High Kindread Crests

Same boss, just stronger depending on which seals you trade to the boss door.

Yeah, even if all this amounts to is being able to freely redo any mission fight you've already completed without rewards, it'd still be fun. I was disappointed when the caps came off Promy and I couldn't go in and slap the bosses upside the head to make up for what I went through during Lv30 cap.

Yeah and we have Kindred Crest And High Kindred Crest, using it at Colosseum in Whitegate to access them should be fair enough to all players wanting to re-do it (I wouldn't mind using 30 Kindred or High Kindred Crest to get a useful phobos or deimos orb to enter a mission battlefield i already did, just for fun)

Are You kidding!?
Of Course I do!!
Ever since I completed all my missions in this game, I always wanted to just go back and beat the living crap out of all the Mission Bosses I won in the past. I love Mission Boss fights. I really REALLY DO.. Playing this game mainly for stoy ark so I also help friends with missions when I can.

But I would really like to go redo a couple of my favorite Boss fights I enjoyed doing with my friends or solo.
Hell, I'd like to level sync in certain lvls and see if I can beat them up.

I would like to have this feature ever since I beat all my missions back in 2008 lol Before the abyssea and other stuff.
Yes Please!!

Ok I need to know what do you mean by "Various methods that will allow you to challenge your favorite bossess?"
I know you said "when you feel the lust for battle" but what does this mean exactly?

Do we need to get a Key Item to do these battles? And if so, are we "LIMITED" in how many times we can obtain these Key items? Can we hold more than one Key items?

I just don't get why SE has to make it sooooo complicated than it needs to be.
Why can't they just make it where, if you touch the BCNM circle, all the previous BCNM battle fields that relates to missions/quests that you have completed be listed so you can undertake them without any rewards?

That way players who just wana go play their favorite fight can, and not abuse it for rewards obtained by it, as if it was your 1st time doing them.

Please Camate, respond cause I would really like to know.
I would really like SE to not make it complicated and make it simple so we can just go out and have fun doing these fights when we wish without the limitations that are not neccessary. I wana have fun with previous fights with my friends.

Beat any misson/quest bcn, and you can enter again freely. Part of mission progression is actually progressing through storyline. You kinda of remind me of people who either read a summary or the last chapter of a book to see if they "like" it. Neither of those can fully express a story, the tension and buildup of plot over several chapters. Nor can they make players or reader emotionally invest in what's goin on to characters with this build up.

I'll be there first to admit that many BCNM are pointless "filler" fight, featuring repetitive NM's and boring fights. However, some do involve storyline elements.

Shadow Lord already made it into his own little BCNM, in the form of Fiat Lux.
Unfortunately that requires holding all 4 northland campaign zones AND 4 additional outdoor campaign zones by the allied nations, a situation that can only occur if the entire server ignores abyssea for a week. After which the battle is inaccessible for the entire week due to too many groups trying to fight the big meanie for his outdated level 75 gear.

Indeed, I got that on my alt on the first go & on my main when I did Windurst 5-2.

I thought it happened if you already beat it, but as I found out on my alt, seems not.

I'm not agreeing to this idea just because I wanna go against Zeid loads of times...really >.> <.<

ok I'm sad lol, but more 1 on 1 bcnm's would be fun, maybe even have the option to cap for more of a challenge?
