Well I'll start with something positive. Abyssea revived the game for me while we wait for new level caps. I think some of the things they did last month for congestion were well intended. The KIs sometimes drop in boxes, there is less an issue with boxes simply not appearing, and when i do have KIs farmed, we can use them. Now, Bolded text for the ADD/lazy, so don't bother whining about the length.I cancelled in June because the overcrowding was just unbearable. I came back thinking maybe it won't be an issue anymore, but it's actually worse in some respects. Whereas in may I could go in at say weekday afternoon and there'll be 20 or fewer in Mis, now there's consistently 80+. On weekends the game is pretty much unplayable so far as worthwhile content. I can barely even do staff trial in abyssea. In the past if a ??? was taken we could move to another, but now when you only need say Briareus, you just have to put up with it. The single ???s at KI nms has made me lean towards cancelling again. I'm hoping that new content will clear up abyssea some, or the "abyssea changes" in the timeline for August (if that update is still next month). I don't see another way to make it more tolerable other than multiple ??? everywhere. Even when helping friends get Shinryu access, i would say at least half our time was spent battling for claims.
So far, other players have at least doubled the time, often triple-4x, it would take to farm KIs, whether from gold box or the ??? or world pop. This makes the game not fun for me. I don't know if others agree but I'm constantly hearing this complaint. At a single gigas pop today there were at least 20 people trying to pop. I do not enjoy fighting with so many standing on top of me either, if i do manage to claim. It took half an hr to get a single one in, and I have a pretty good connection. To make matters worse, there is a 3rd party program that's *widely* used now to target ??? before it's up. I can tell it's going on because their heads face down before the ??? appears. People I know admit to using it. So is SE going to ban them? Probably not, so the only recourse for non cheaters is multiple ???. Don't tell me it's against forums rules to talk about things that are ruining the game for me, that I am not partaking in. It exists, it's blatantly obvious, not talking about it doesn't change that, so do something about it please.
There is also the dreaded JP latency advantage and god help those with poor connections. This really feels like 3 kings camping now, even from before the claim delay was added, where JP can completely dominate it. Since 3 kings were changed to force pops I would imagine for these very reasons, why can Abyssea pops not be changed? I suspect it's because they want us to keep playing indefinitely, but far from it, it is making me consider quitting. I mean, the ??? doesn't even appear on my screen sometimes. There was another case where a NIN/DNC was soloing a gigas for 20 minutes, unable to stagger it, before dying finally. To my amazement, he kept farming more pops. With so many around, the nearby NQs for pop item are also a pain to claim and this makes even mundane things like farming TE annoying.
Finally, the general hostility this produces again reminds me of 3 kings. It makes the game not enjoyable. I have to put Away up because i'll get hammered by tells asking to join as if it's EXP pt, if they can have X drop, if they can pop next etc. Very rarely are the tells mutually beneficial or even friendly. Even those that bot claim a pop in front of me will then have the gall to ask for help with Shadow of Death proc. Another example, I was trying to pop Grandgousier (gigas) and having no luck. Again, they are clearly botting the pop. I decide to try running off and then rushing to the pop cause maybe they won't think there's competition. It worked, I got the claim, and they proceeded to harass me in /say and spamming emotes and /check. I was there before them yet they are saying things like "respect can i have it" "turn can i have it." So now myself and my friends are having to all put Away up, filter say and shout, emotes and check, and yes, the all important /blockaid. This is not a pleasant experience. I was farming Chloris the other day, and there were other groups fighting for the pop at all 7 NM needed for that, when i was there anyway. Even if you bought the KI pops at obscene prices, it would be a painful experience.
As far as those who will say "well, go farm the KIs from gold box" yes, I've tried that believe me. Sometimes it does net a KI we need, but it's so random, and of course you have to build lights. Even with all i mention above, it's still slower than farming the KI from actual NMs. Also, typical methods like Fell Cleave farm are deterred by other players ganking the pulls or Cleave farming themselves. In both methods, no matter how you go about it, overcrowding causes me to waste half my time fighting others for KIs or even seal NMs (when i'm helping friends with that, I don't need any). I do not see any noticeable effect from the "congestion relief" other than once you have the KIs farmed. There will rarely be 4 groups at Briareus for example, yet this has negligible impact on the total time spent farming, because the KIs are limited. I'm also doubting the merges have helped matters with this.
