* Vision
Charmers (not necessarily the kind that would buy you a drink at the local tavern) and masters of animal communication that tame feral beasts and call them forth as pets to aid in combat and provide support to their allies.
We plan to broaden the range of monsters that beastmasters can coax into becoming their pets. Furthermore, we'd like to see beastmasters shed their reputation as lone wolves by endowing their pets with more abilities that provide assistance to party members.
* Example Adjustments
o A new ability to call forth pets that, like the avatars Odin and Alexander, immediately use their characteristic ability then disappear.
o Adding more pet-specific abilities.
o Revising the effects of the Familiar ability.
Pets that immediately appear, use attacks and vanish sound good but will they be tied down to a new JA and be capable of fighting alongside an already deployed pet?
BST could use all the DPS/support buttons it can get so one can hope that this new toy isn't going to be something limited to situations where you have no pet charmed or summoned.
As it stands, Beastmaster may be the most underpowered job in the game. While it is able to solo alot of old content through Yuly and biscuits, the job is flat terrible in the party department.
While the level 76+ pets were a huge step up over the previous jug pets, BST still cannot hope to keep up with other DD due to a lack of tools available to improve the pets offensive capabilities. The Sic/Ready TP attacks are weak and many aren't worth the number of charges required to use.
Can some abilities that weaken the master in exchange for a boost in the pets offensive capability be considered? Something along the lines of a pet Hasso. Pets fall so far behind buffed DD, it becomes a blowout and something needs to be done.
This class was called Beastmaster last I heard anyway.
New Charmables sound good but impractical for party play. How about a line of currently charm-immune monsters as jug pets?
Beast - Gnole
Lizard - Peiste
Vermin - Wamoura
Plantoid - Goobbue
Aquan - Orobon
Amorph - Sandworm
Birds - Roc
We've seen that monsters can be scaled down in Abyssea so there really is no reason that some of these couldn't be summoned via jugpet. The job has a severe lack of monster types that are intimidating yet we call this class a Beastmaster.
Ive been to pet stores with a more intimidating selection of animals than what BST has as options right now.
Lastly, the "support" buffs to given to pets could be a significant boon to BST in a party environment if it doesn't kill the offensive output of the pet like Avatar's Favor.
Stuff like Yuly giving an enhanced crit aura, Nazuna giving double attack or Merle with Counter+ could be useful but it would be important to not make the price too harsh.
tl;dr:
-Pets need to be made stronger, even if it comes at some penalties to the master.
-New insta-pets should be on a separate timer and be compatible with a typical pet + master scenario.
-Charm buffs are good but jugpets are better. Uncharmable pets are long overdue.
-"Sphere" effects from pets should not be Avatar's Favor II.
