View Full Version : [suggestion] shout spam filtering

This is most likely a problem on most servers, but there are a bunch of people that think its a good idea to spam up the chatlog with the same shout message every 30 friggin seconds. Is there a way to implement a shout spam filtering system that can block 2 of the same shout lines until a set amount of time has passed? It really gets annoying sometimes sitting in Port Jeuno and seeing:

Player: (Divine Might) (do you need it?) (can I have it?) (please) (please) (fun) (excitement) (you can have this!) (am I annoying yet???) (Help me out!)
30 seconds later....
Player: (Divine Might) (do you need it?) (can I have it?) (please) (please) (fun) (excitement) (you can have this!) (am I annoying yet???) (Help me out!)
30 seconds later....
Player: (Divine Might) (do you need it?) (can I have it?) (please) (please) (fun) (excitement) (you can have this!) (am I annoying yet???) (Help me out!)

repeat ad nauseam

my blacklist is getting pretty full with people that do this already.

That's what the blacklist is for. Just keep using it. Remove the oldest entries from your list when it gets full- they're probably not relevant anymore anyway.

Oftentimes, you can get someone to slow down by just sending them a polite tell.

There are times when it might be necessary to make several shout lines, and those people should not be punished for a few abusive players.

You know there's a blacklist cap due to PS2 limitations right?

That's why I said this:Didn't see your post, you posted it while I was writing mine. lol
My bList is fairly empty save for the first person I ever added to it.

Yeah, also the people that carry out full arguments in Port Jueno 24/7.

Don't sit in port jeuno if you not wanting to see shouts or turn on the filter. Only reason to be hanging out there any way is to watch for shouts. If just passing though to grab a orb, drop seals off or get soap so filtering it would not hurt you. The fix is already in the game does not need dev time wasted cause you want to hang out in the shout hub.

Sorry but you do realize that ffxi was infact made for the ps2?
It was launch first on ps2 in japan then moved to pc then released over here pc first. Japan is more consol based due to the amount of time they work on computers. (just a guess on the last part)

sorry just your siggy rubs me the wrong way I mean no offence to you :)

on topic you can report players who spam to gm. They even have a set report thing for spaming.
So you can report people for it and blist them. The chat filter would just get annoying since it will only prevent the same person from using a chat type more then once. ever x seconds. WoW and Aion have a spam filter and it gets annoying when trying to talk.

to add since I ran out of room in my first post (posting on ps3)

At least people on this game talk. Most mmo beside WoW and ffxi are silent. Try playing ffxiv atm no one really talks most communication happens in the forum. :)

Sorry but you do realize that ffxi was infact made for the ps2?That doesn't change the fact that it's holding the game back and can be removed.

I'm guessing your not getting what I said. THINK before you post please. A good number of japanese AND na users do still play on the ps2. So they can't "just get rid of it". Do please look at the bigger picture before you post again. :) Again I mean no offence. ^^

I did look at the bigger picture and it doesn't involve PS2. lol

Spamming insults, sexual jokes and memes is clearly a wonderful experience and should be on other online games.

Isn't there a limit to how many /yells one can do in jeuno? They should extend it to shout... it really is obnoxious.

Sometimes spamming is necessary, if you sent a message and the types of players you were looking for didnt happen to be in Jeuno at that very moment, but in fact were there 5-10 seconds later, they wouldnt see it. And it would be just your luck that if you did not say the message again in a short period of time, that player/players may have left, and it could have been a player that would have been interested in it. You never know when people will be zoning in and out. And every second counts when you are looking for help. I think its necessary to find people.

Even sometimes when you just look at them, you get that lazy feeling like..."you know what, i kinda want to do that, but meh, ill just wait". Then like 5 minutes after seeing the message spammed your like, "well, screw it, nothing else is going on, ill just do this now then". How it always works for me.

What would really be cool is if SE would put a GM in PJ. Everyone would be so busy gawping, bowing, scraping and courtseying at them they would just shut up. :)

Then there would be MASSIVE lag from all the people crowding into PJ to see the GM, the game on all servers would crash and people would post here to complain........................

Honestly, as said before, just don't sit around in PJ. If you want to use the abyssea NPCs, they're in each zone, I usually sit in Ru'Lude unless I'm specifically -looking- for shouts.

This is an unnecessary complaint, really.
