View Full Version : Nyzul Isle ~ Floors -1 ~ -100. What happened?

Wasn't there a post somewhere from SquareEnix stating they were thinking about another 100 floor but going down(negative floors)?
If they, or player would like to continue these series of random dungeons, I'd like to make a few changes, new challenges, and new features.
A/ "Horde"... All mobs on entire floor aggro party once agroed. However, the mobs will move slowly towards player with hate. Each death speeds up the mobs movement speed.
B/ "Wack-a-mole"...(1) large room filled with approximately 20~30 chests. 4 random variety exist, 5-15 mimics, 5 temp items, 8 random mob, 1 NM chest, and 1 trigger/exit chest. Each mimic pop trigger addition mimic. So 1mimic, 2 mimic, 3 mimic and so on tell all remaining pop. All posses draw in.
C/ "I-Spy"....No mob on floors. All party mdungeon are spread randomly through the dungeon. One member becomes "IT". In order to progress "It" must kill all other players or party must kill "IT". Catch is "IT" player will receive all stats capped and HP/MP pool capped(think, A Shantotoo Ascention). Also, the "IT" player will "rage" in five minutes becoming unkillablable. No weakness or exp loss for any players. They just remain "dead" till success.
D/ "Light the darkness"... 5 Lamps spread out in maze. Map entirely in darkness. Random mobs and NM. Players must escort 1 player carry "torch" from central lamp. Player with "torch" cannot perform any actions other than lighting torch. After 1st torch 2 lights can be carried by 2 players. Remaining player escort. After 3, 3 torches, etc.
E/ "Speedy-Gonzalez"...(1) NM waiting in central room, once agreed and % damage done will "run away"(flee speed" to another adjacent room random direction. After second encounter will run away 2 rooms distant. After 3 fight 3 rooms distance. A little strategy can be waiting in room for him.
Let's eliminate the normal lamp rooms or at least the "order" ones.
Rewards? I don't care all that much... Maybe combine my suggestions of Tier IV Race Specific gears with -100 floor. Each 20 floors give a piece of RSE-IV's.
Special Note- A New "Mythic" weapon. I'll call it the "copy weapon-type", each weapon is of a particular type(ie sword, H2H, scythe, etc.). All Jobs will be able to equip all styles of weapon. The copy sword would be DMG 1 Delay 1 latent affect: dual wield. Meaning no effect to delay or damage, however player will be able to dual wield them without ninja or other jobs.
The "copy/mimic" weapon will require players to perform x amount of Weaponskills so that it could copy them. These can include all job specific Weaponskills(ie WHM hex strike). Only weapon specific Weaponskills allowed. The copy sword will gain attribute with each successive Weaponskills(just as the trial of magian-weaponskill types). This copying includes all job specific strikes, campaign strikes, relic strikes, mythic strikes, empryean strikes, etc.
Obviously, players would need the job class, appropriate skill level, and Weaponskills first before any copying is done. Since the weapon can copy any Weaponskills available, player would now only need 1 weapon type to be able to use ALL Weaponskills of that particular types.
Would like to see floors 100-200 with new level 80-99 gear. Some of the new tougher mobs in there would be nice too, Can already do most of the existing floors at 90 10 floors at a time if you are lucky.

Never seen, or even 'heard' of such a post. :S
But yeah, it would be nice to get some new Nyzul-related things going on as I always liked, and still like to do it even though I got all the 100 floors done. I think there are things they could do with what it is already, though, instead of just introducing more floors. This would help those who are unable to get them done in the first place currently, even though it is perfectly doable with just 3 characters already, sometimes it just hands you the lose-card.
I always was annoyed by the limit on doing the Assaults being so rough, and that the time in there is only 30 minutes. I liked Nyzul especially and it was done for the day so quickly; it would be fun to be able to do it more, simply put. I know they are planning on reducing the time for new tags, but am unsure of how much it might help in the end on this.
I'm not against building on it further with new floors either, though, but I don't know if it would really 'fit' in.

I remember the OP's post in question, but I think it was more speculative than a plan. I've kept in the back of my mind forever though. I loved Nyzul to death. The randomized floor elements really made good groups stand out from the subpar and let my people and I have a blast.
I'm far more interested in a Nyzul revamp than a Salvage one. I don't care what the rewards are for more Nyzul floors, just as long as its good enough to get people back in the ruins again.

The Future of Nyzul
Even though the version update just took place, the development team is hard at work on planning content adjustments for the future. I managed to check out their plans for Nyzul and though I couldn’t get any specifics since they are still in the planning phases, they did mention some ideas about their direction:
• New addition for high level characters
Please note that this is not an adjustment to existing content! We are planning to add a whole new Nyzul targeted towards high levels. We will be sure to prepare the appropriate rewards and difficult monsters.
• Addition of new elements following the current system
We’re planning to add new elements to stimulate the experience of the existing Nyzul assault.
We will be continuing to look into this, so please give your feedback and we will let you know more specifics as the development team progresses!

Add Alexandrite to regular monsters in nyzul isle and other assaults.
And in regards to salvage upgrades - I have the 3 pieces of Ares' curiass. Had them for a long time. Why did I never upgrade them you ask? I was waiting for the price of the ingots to go down. 10m for a body piece seemed unreasonable. Now its about 50k to upgrade the peices but not worth even THAT much gil.
Oh SE I do wish you would stop changing things in this game that nobody complains about and start enhancing the content we do complain about - or for a shocker here - add NEW content. Hell bring back old school dynamis. I miss that event so much. New dynamis is boring.

Ideally the main rewards that are featured for it should be available via a points system like Assault. This was great during Assaults because as long as you complete goals everybody who goes along makes progress toward what they want. On the flip side when rewards are just a matter of a random number generator rolling some dice its insulting. Points systems are the way to go in every aspect and should be utilized more often.
While were on that topic I would only say that Nyzul was one of the best and most well designed endgame events FFXI has had. It was easy to get into, kept you guessing, casual, and fun. Even though it went through some rough changes in difficulty and the rewards value were debatable. Just keep it short (~30 minutes each) and casual and go from there.

OH MY FREAKING GOD! The whole Nyzul addition thing is actually going to happen?! THAT'S AWESOME.
Feedback:
* the current objectives are all fine really. I've never had any serious trouble or rage over any of them, even the lamp floors or the don't aggro gears floors. If you want to add more objectives, that's cool too.
* beating a boss seemed to only have roughly a 50% chance of dropping an armor piece. I don't know what you guys do to balance drop rates, but it was pretty disheartening to have a group cleverly solve all of nyzul's challenges and beat the boss in time and get nothing. Either a guaranteed drop of something or having all armor drop independently so sometimes you get nothing but other times you might get 2 or 3 if you're lucky would be okay. But I don't know what you have planned for new gear rewards so it's hard to give feedback on that.
* one of the things people complained about (I never had a problem with this personally, but whiners whine) was that you don't have time to pass gear when you run out of time before zoning back out. Would it be possible to add a grace period to Nyzul, similar to dynamis or einherjar, where the run is over when time runs out but you don't immediately zone back out? I'm not asking for more time to win or fight - I think the 30 minutes was tough but fair - but a minute or two to deal with any last minute drops would be nice.
* ignore what everyone says about wanting Salvage updates and do Nyzul ones instead. Salvage was boring and formulaic - Nyzul was challenging and different every time.

So additions to salvage too ? or ajustement ?
suggestion : make bhaflau remant I & II type of zones and put a different system for the high level zone ( NMs, paths, or even cells system, add atma type buff and so on, it has the potential to be fun)

ive always thought it would be neat if you could return to nyzul isle as a zone once you completed a floor. Basically like if you have climbed to lets say 40, then you could return to any floor 1-40 and just hang out with no time limit. I mean the whole idea is your taking missions to explore this tower. Well once you clear a floor technically shouldnt it be explored? Meaning you could return to it without tabs and stay as long as u like.
Higher lvl section of nyzul sounds cool.

"Even though the version update just took place."
... is that supposed to mean the development team was busy on the last version update, because as far as I am aware that single version update we all waited almost a year for since the last abyssea expansion had basicly no content added aside from 5 lvls and extreamly poorly thought out minimal spell/job abillity additions. The whole development team should be ashamed of themselves for bringing to us such minimal empty garbage after such a wait, and there being no expansion addition to go along with the lvl cap increase and it being the second last level cap increase, and month late release of the version update level cap increase. There is no excuse, there should be a formal apology from SE staff and the statement of a future version update to augment the lack of material in this last version update.
This last version update was absolutlely pitaful, and a mockery and disrespect to their customers, and our money we are paying them.

That's what Alzaadal Ruins are for. Nyzul is an instance and so that would block people doing the assault from entering (at least under Square's pathetic system of instancing where "instance" = about 20). Plus there is no single static "Nyzul Isle" zone. It is a series of big floors that change every time by opening or closing pathways to you randomly.

Please give us an alternative source of Alexandrite in the form of Nyzul.
Even though I'm not aiming for a mythic, I would like to see this happen as well. As it is now, the economy for Alexandrite is very low, so adding Alexandrite to these new Nyzul Isle missions would help extremely to stimulate distribution for it, in my opinion (as well as everyone else's).

Ideally the main rewards that are featured for it should be available via a points system like Assault.
But it won't be because a random reward schedule is the most effective form of operant conditioning. If you think low rate random drops are a huge part of MMOs because MMO developers are stupid or just sadistic you are mistaken. Random drops are used because they they are the most effective way to addict players to your game.
Although written as a comedy article everything in the article linked below is completely true.

The only way that would work would be to revert to the old system of clearing the disk when you beat the boss. Being able to spam the boss every day with guaranteed armor drops would mean you'd be done with it in a week.

Yes and no.
Clearly the reward system shouldn't be guaranteed, but also it shouldn't be VWNM stingy. There NEEDS to be a consistent reward given, otherwise it's just a skinners box which is disgusting.

Random drops are used because they they are the most effective way to addict players to your game.
But in fact they aren't because unlike mice in a Skinner box, humans are capable of foresight and judgement. Players who think its insulting and laughable to get rewarded by a random number generator will shun the content, criticize, suggest changes, or quit. Its worth considering what is in actuality more profitable in the long term.

Not necessarily. Salvage bosses ALWAYS dropped two 25 armor pieces. Einherjar's Odin always dropped two body abjurations. Not knowing anything about new Nyzul, we don't know if armor will drop in completed form from new bosses or not. Heck, it might go all magian trials on us, upgrading pieces from old nyzul with seals dropped from new bosses. I dunno. I'm much more a fan of slow and steady progress than random luck and bring a THF.

But the skinner box makes the most sense from a business perspective. A consistent reward rather that a random one is actually counter productive to SE's profits.

If a consistent reward worked better to keep people playing they would use that instead of a random schedule reward.
Game developers are not simply dumb or sadistic, they use random drops because it works to keep people addicted. Blizzard and Microsoft even employ behavioral psychologists in order to better develop games that keep people playing them for as long as possible.

A consistent reward system would need to be balanced with a degredation of some form over time in the reward effectiveness.
That said, it would be a lot cleaner than most forms of this. If you give players something that they can choose to consume for power but have to earn again, provided it isn't totally annoying to the point where getting more is a constant struggle (which would probably be another random system) they will generally be alright with it.
FF developers could probably easily take this route with a little adjustment to the way they do things, the question is if they would be capable of balancing it.
