View Full Version : Regional Outposts

I would love to see something implemented that allows players to gain access to the near unobtainable regional outposts in the beginner areas.
While other regions can require some patience to obtain, the Ronfaure, Sarutabaruta and Gustaberg regions historically have taken years before changing regional control and it is at a point now where we realistically may never see them change control again unless something new is introduced.

That's how it should be. Taking over another nation's front yard very well should be a monumental, nigh-impossible task.

I'm from San d'Oria since 2003 and I got Sarutabaruta in november/december 2010 !!!
this was the second time that happened, I miss the first some years ago...
but now I have all OP..
p.s.
If I change nations, I'll lost every OP right? and if I return back to my first allegiance nations I'll find back my OP or I will have to re-obtain again?

Your OPs will be saved.

The only starting nation's OP worth getting would be Sarutabaruta. There are 2 maws in the Gustabergs with insta-warps to them. There is also a maw close enough to the Ronfaure OP to not worry about it.

Pretty much this. The Abys La Theine warp puts you right next to the zone to West Ronfaure, which is pretty close to the outpost. The Abys Altepa warp is actually CLOSER to Bastok than the Gustaberg outpost (as the op is in lower north gustaberg).
Yeah it costs cruor which not all players have stocked up until they start doing abyssea runs (or leeching), but it works. Sarutabuta is the only one most linkshells organize to take over nowadays, if at all.

Retrace and go to West Sarutabaruta [S] Maw, my only suggestion I can make. I been trying to get Dunes OP since last April. Since the maw is for Misereaux [A] is in Dunes now, I really do not need it, especially when I can run over to Selbina and change to whatever job I need to change to work on levels.

Like a lot of other people have said, that's the point. They're meant to be hard to get. I've played for over 2 years now, been from Windurst all that time and I have had all outposts but Gustaberg and Ronfaure for 1.5 years. I don't expect that to change, end of! :P
I just compensate with all the other modes of 'transport' that other posters have mentioned. You can still get everywhere almost as fast now-a-days, it might just add an extra 30 seconds onto your journey.

Take over the outpost for yourself. My character started in Bastok, and I'm back with Bastok now. However, back in December, I ran through Sandoria missions with a buddy from my linkshell. I was a Sandorian for two weeks. At one point, I captured Gustaberg for Sandoria, JUST FOR FUN. I fully intended to go back to Bastok after hitting rank 10, and in Bastok I had all the outpost warps (including Ronfaure and Sarutabaruta). I staged the takeover for fun.
It's not that hard. Spend your cruor on a full set of Perle, Aurore, and Teal gear (I think 72,000 cruor should suffice). Then wait by the outpost until just before the weekly conquest tally and trade it all in. You'll buy a bunch of influence for your nation.
However, it's important that you do this immediately, and I mean IMMEDIATELY, before the conquest tally. More than 10 minutes before the conquest tally and control will shift back to the home nation.

lol, wondered how to do that.......I was lucky being from Bastok on Hades we got Windy OP a couple of times, but never ever did I see Bastok get Sandi, jumped to Ramora with some friends and I kid you not, 10 mins (was only there 3 days at this point) before tally I noticed Bastok had Sandy.....you have never seen anyone get to Sandy as fast as I did that day. I couldn't believe my luck.........three months later I was back in Hades with all op's

Agreed (one of the reasons that, though I would love to do the other nation storylines, I do not and remain with Bastok (Rank 10).
It really has to be a concentrated effort (which would involve the Japanese, because of the timing of conquest updates) on the last 12 hours or so to just spam the crap out of the zone (trading gear, evoliths, etc.).

You can change nations to do the story quest, then change back after your finished and have all your OPs back. It saves them for the nation you did them in.

Over on Gilgamesh, those starter regions fall into the hands of foreign nations so often that I'm not even that surprised when it happens any more. A week after I captured Gustaberg for Sandoria, someone else capture Sarutabaruta for Sandoria.

It reminds me of the time when Bastok had lost Gustaberg for 3+ weeks to San d'Oria on Phoenix

not that Gustaberg is that hard to take over with SMN burns...

LOL Well now will be your time, with the server close, a lot of regions might be lost to Beastmen, soo.. get out there and fight for your nation.
But I do agree, the "front yard" OP (as someone else had put it) should always be nearly impossible for other nations to grab, after all, it will suck if you are starting out, and the nearest OP that your home nation has, it miles away. I always see the first OP Supplies run, as a sort of Tutorial of what they are, and how they work.

If the new players need those OP then they can team up and take control over these OPs. I've seen other nation take over OPs near the other cities quite a few times during my FFXI career. Fortunately I have every single OP collected from a long time back, but taking over the OPs is all a part of co-operative play. I don't think SE really needs to fix anything here unless they tweak it to make the control gain higher with less work, yet it would be nice if some of the same co-operative play still stayed intact.

An LS can coordinate a zone takeover by buying equipment and trading it to the outpost. The high gil value of the Abyssea cruor armor makes it even easier. Just get a group of people to do it and you can all get your outposts for a nation. That's how certain servers have done it for years, do a rotation of the 3 starting zones each week for 2 weeks.

Taking over OP's can be the best fun. I would HATE to lose being able to do this in a challenging way.
For windy the hardest I have found to take over is Dunes and Ronfrue. Since it is a nice middle ground it is worth doing and fun.
If you want it done then just go do it!
With game starting up on friday that gives you three days to grab an outpost from beastmen. Good luck and have fun!

I originally thought that Expeditionary Force was denied to the starting Regions in order to disallow easy outpost teleports (included with joining EF) to these areas. But now I'm wondering if you can sign up for EF for a region you've never visited before...
Anyway, according to the game's core storyline, the nations shouldn't have any more claim to "their front yard" than anybody else. They're supposed to (still) be recovering from the Crystal War, unable to exert any real influence at all beyond what the adventurers do for them. Witness Gideus and Ghelsba Outpost.

Great thread. :) I got W.Ron a couple of years back and actively participated in capturing Saruta shortly after. Best fun I had! The only other way to getting even close to Windy OP is via the maw West Sarutabaruta (S). It's all Shantotto's doing you know.
