View Full Version : Am I the only person bothered that a Vivi Valve affects Cure Potency?

You know, with Vivi being a black mage in FFIX and all.

How about an Eiko Valve? Figured a Dagger Valve or Garnet Valve would be confusing to people. =x

Yes, random complaint.

Lol... glad i'm not the only one that thought 'Vivi valve?...'

Probably has more reference to the definition of the word vivi which means alive or living. Which would make sense for Vivi from FF9 if you think about it considering his origins.

True, but FF fans will associate it with the character before the definition of the word.

I actually just learned the definition. Thank you for my fancy learnin' of the day. =D

I just learned the definition too, But the first thing that came to my mind was FF9, And i didn't even play that game.

Still, Not a big deal to me, I quite love the new attachments. For the first time since i've played PUP i'm going to be using Water maneuvers (Skill ups)

Why not tea? I'm not saying that because I'm English or that I think tea is TOTALLY awesome, but come on, there's a tea house in Whitegate. And well you give that Automaton thief a cup of chai brewed with the finest sleeping potion across the land, one given by a pervert. If my automaton could make me a cup of tea, my life (or rather lack of, come on guys, we're MMORPG geeks, I don't think anybody here can claim to have a life) would be complete.

Tea?.... TEA?!? What the... TEA?

...

Well why not? 1 cup please!

I usually have certain names for characters I use in games, if I can change them. Especially so in the Role Playing types. For example Vivi is rather alien to me as a FFIX name. It does not make me think of the FFIX Vivi, nor Dagger/Garnet or Steiner respectively...

Now that I think about it, I re-name them all. Quina for example is always Pizzoza to me. ^^
Actually I use very few of the set names in any of the games but anyways, that's sort of off the topic, excuse me while I start playing one of the oldies once again, got that feeling now grrr. Maybe play 1 and 2 in a row again hmmm...

I used to play the games over a friend's house, and we'd rename the characters. I can't remember for the life of me what we named most of the characters, though. I know where we got the idea for Quina's name, but I'll be damned if I ever remember to look it up or ask him.

I am way too lazy to think of names for characters unless I have to. The original Breath of Fire, before I actually knew that the main character was canonically named Ryu, I called him "Hero." Yes, I am that lazy. And limited by four characters.

And I've been debating going through an FF marathon at some point. I kinda want to finish IX and IV before I start it, though, since I'm at the end of both of those. >_> Can't beat Necron in IX though.

Isn't there some type of lore-based force at work called vivification or something? I know I've heard this term from NPCs or something.

There are also "vivified" objects in the game.

Vivified Coral (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Vivified_Coral)
Vivified Mythril (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Vivified_Mythril)

These are used for crafting Reraise items.

Then there's the Vivio items, which have a nearly identical item description.

Vivio Crab Shell (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Vivio_Crab_Shell)
Vivio Femur (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Vivio_Femur)
Vivio Platinum (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Vivio_Platinum)
Vivio Scorpion Claw (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Vivio_Scorpion_Claw)
Vivio Sheep Skin (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Vivio_Sheep_Skin)
Vivio Wyvern Scale (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Vivio_Wyvern_Scale)

All of the Vivio items are used in the recipes for the "Healing" body armors like Healing Vest and Healing Mail.

Paksenarrion,

Hero is not a bad name at all heh, and I think many of the names I use are/were the usual names my friends would use in RPGs and whatnot and eventually I might make up some alterations or mixtures of them and would be able to name several characters and due to the nature of Final Fantasy games, there usually were suitable characters for all the names, or well, at least to me they suited them well which is quite interesting now that I think of it.

And oh yeah the character limitations for the names in some games... sigh!

Also, what is there to debate about the marathon?
Goferit!

The debate goes how to do it. If I want to finish IX and IV first, do I replay those when I get to them? Which version of the game do I play? I'm also missing access to V and VI, but I'm sure I could probably find them at Gamestop somewhere (I have no idea where my GBA games went, they kinda disappeared sometime when I moved. I just recently found my copies of DS III and IV. I've been playing PSP IV.).

The last time I think I named characters after friends was FF1 on GBA, where I named the characters after friends from FFXI that played that job.

Have to play the original versions. Of course that should prove challenging considering the conflict between the English and Japanese numbers. For the games that are affected by this, you'll have to either A) play them in japanese, B) find translated versions or C) play the remakes.

All I know is that I wouldn't be able to do such a marathon as I've never been able to force myself to play through even the first disc of ffvii because I find it unbearably bad unlike some people. The rest I'd be able to do though, if I could find my long lost copy of X.

Also...don't count X-2 in your marathon...just...not...worthy...of a place...in a gaming marathon... (though unlike 7 I was actually able to force myself through that atrocity).

inb4 "you're taste in games sucks, go play ffxiii (i would, gladly), ffvii is the greatest game eva omfgwtfbbq *school girl scream* Sephiroth is teh awesome!"

And yes ^ that was a blatant mocking of people who are over-zealous about ffvii. I've got nothing against the game (despite not being able to bear it), my problem lays with its "fans". /rant

I thought calling it the Vivi Valve was more of a sarcastic joke. Pretty funny when I read it anyways.

Far too lazy to do the original versions. I actually recently picked up the PSP versions of FFI and FFII for that fact.

Never finished the first disc of FFVII, but got close. Would not consider it the best game.

X-2 > VIII

That is all.

I'd probably recommend the original versions of the most early ones only if they had nostalgic value to you, or if you really wanted to play them as they were.

The first one for example has a frequency of random-battles that is just brutal. The PlayStation re-makes of 1 and 2 also have re-mixed music that I simply love. And there are some other additional tweaks that make the experience a lot more enjoyable altogether.

That said, Nobuo Uematsu has been a big influence and inspiration to me, as a musician, ever since I first started playing these games nearly 20 years ago. It's really the main point for me to like the games all in all. IX sort of is the last Final Fantasy to me, after that, they're good as games, but not Final Fantasy, and not nearly as enjoyable to me. And XI is obviously a whole different thing altogether.

Maybe I'm just getting old that way...

What I like about IX is how it seemingly plays homage to the older ones. The battle system, the equipment system, and even the music that has some pieces from the very first game! I get the chills from just thinking about that.

As for completing those first, and then the others, I don't think you should be worrying about playing them again when you get to that number, since they basically are considered games of their own really, and not sequels. No point in that really if the games are still in your recent memory, I think.

I don't really know about the other re-makes than those that are for the PS. It saddens me that there is no such for the third game, since I have 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6 for the PS...

There are also some specific grudges against X, X-2, and XII because those had certain re-makes as well, but only released in Japan. And ironically they're called international, that makes me wonder if I should cry or laugh... so I just sigh quietly.
XII for one saw a lot of great changes, such as a kind of a job system (international zodiac job system). I like that version a lot more.

X-2... that reminds me; I still didn't watch The Spoony One's review, or should I say tearing on that, which he recently posted. Should be fun.

Well, just some thoughts.
Probably forgot some, feeling really sleepy here. =.=
