I'm currently training my Elvan for his Maat fight (DRK). I've been trying to skill up for 3 days and I still have a ways to go. I tried getting the ring in Z-Mines, but the zone is overcamped. I was thinking that maybee there should be an item that is lv70 to equip, latent effect activated by being lv70 (perhaps even job specific) that would help with skill ups (magic and physical) that you could obtain after loosing to Maat. I don't want to level an easy job just to fight him and I don't think we should have to.

9 times on thf and no win. I suggest leveling whm or pld as they are a joke.

I had a tough time with my Mithra on THF too. Took like 17 times. I have already said I don't like the option of leveling something else, but If I do wind up giving up it will be smn or mnk.

Don't bother with that ring. It's so rare, you couldn't even get it if Zeruhn Mines wasn't overcamped (and 5 solo people are enough to overcamp the main page...)
You're much better off doing GoV pages on DRK, perhaps with the help of fellows. Just make sure the mobs you fight are decent challenge at least.

I failed THF twice on one toon and on my last attempt (meaning I was going to level BST if I failed, life's too short to keep hitting my against against a brick wall) I won using Steal.
So far in my experience BST is trivial, PLD is easy, WHM is not too bad, THF is a pain and I failed RDM twice failing to land Sleep II or Sleep even once both times .. yes, I guess I suck.

Nah, you don't suck because you kept trying. :) RDM Maat is probably the hardest. MNK, WAR, PLD BLM were all laughably easy, and non Maat DNC a bit troublesome (Laila is surprisingly good).

MNK and SMN are conciderably easier, but the difficulty of the fight seems to be random.
RDM 1/1 With my hume, had Cobra magic gear
THF 1/17 With my Mithra
BLM 1/million with my Taru, the difficulty of getting tests and the fight was part of the reason I quit the game for a year. But I did beat him my first try when I got back.
DRK 0/2 with my Elvan, Time to spend another week skilling up....

Got the win (1/3) but really, that took entirly too many rescources (time / gil / blood preasure medication / etc). I know it used to be the last stop on the way to maximum level, but now it's just a road block.
As long as we're on the subject of limit breaks, if g10 is me vs Maat & Degenhard I'm going to be upset.

Good job! :]
I personally enjoyed the challenge when I got to it as a Red Mage. Did my training with a Ruby Quadav at the Qulun Dome, and I think it took me 4 fights to learn Maat's moves. On 5th I had them down and came out as the winner.
I always forgot to do it on the additional jobs I leveled up such as Samurai, Ninja and Thief. :\
It probably wont be as much fun now at level 90 (or higher), but should be hilarious'ish at least.
