As far as I know, the xbox version uses a farther normal draw distance for the terrain (which also affects the distance at which certain objects are shown in full detail.

Most people playing FFXI on PC have decent enough CPUs to allow for a higher draw distance.

However, as an additional note, it would be ideal if this can be done without altering the fog distance, as it would ruin the effect of foggy weather.

Note: this isn't about sight distance, which can't be altered on one platform and not another without creating imbalance- and the PS2 probably cant deal with a wider sight radius.

I support this.

All three versions support the same terrain draw distance. The only difference is that the 360 version automatically enables widescreen mode during the map flyby as the title is displayed.

All three versions support the same terrain draw distance.

Ehhhhh...

Take a walk in Meriphataud Mountains, along Drogaroga's Spine. On the PC (and probably Xbox), you'll note that the spine segments are only drawn when you're close enough to see the entire segment. On the PS2, the spine is drawn continuously as you move.

That's one of my personal peeves.

the xbox version absolutely does use a higher draw distance. I'm quite sure it was even cited as one of the enhancements on the xbox, prior to its release.

Again, i'm not talking about vision distance. I'm talking about the distance at which terrain and most inanimate, untargetable objects are displayed.

You can already increase drawdistance on pc versions of ffxi. This entire thread is invalid and useless.

To be fair I'm pretty sure they mean "without third-party tools".

Not without breaking the ToS you can't.

Buy an Xbox instead of a PC. Isnt that the usual answer you give to PS2 and Xbox users when you find them complaining about their systems.....

Yes, except that the PC version is otherwise already more capable than the xbox version, and in fact many people have PCs with better hardware than an xbox already. That's not really hard to do.

PS2 is complained about because it's inferior and the cause of a lot of the game's problems.

This isn't a "problem", just a cosmetic issue- but given PC is already more capable, there's no reason it shouldn't have everything every other version has (without having to break the rules)

PS2s are weaker though. The support needs to be dropped for this game to survive.

Besides, isn't this just a cosmetic fix? Not really game breaking at all.

Edit your registry then GTFO. No playing with 3rd party tools that SE doesn't even care about involved.

They need to add an option to turn off LOD levels also. No reason you can't use the high res terrain objects at any distance on a modern PC.
