View Full Version : I want to live faster!

Since the devs shot down my request to adjust Tractor, this is my next attempt to make my own life easier.

One comment made in my thread regarding adjusting Tractor was to equip Atma of the Apocalypse and run out of danger. Barring the fact that not everyone has Atma of the Apocalypse (*cough*), or not everyone dies only in Abyssea, there lies the fact that there is a decent chance you've died in the middle of about ninety mobs, give or take, and all of them want you dead.

Let's use an example of...worms. Specifically, Ectozoons, our friendly Pallid Percy pop item dropper.

"Okay," you say, "all I have to do is get up, run a little bit, die, get up, run again, lather, rinse, repeat." But you get up, and suddenly...

The Ectozoon starts casting Rasp.
The Ectozoon starts casting Bind.
The Ectozoon starts casting Bind.
The Ectozoon starts casting Rasp.
Paksenarrion starts casting Cure VI.
The Ectozoon starts casting Stonega IV.
Bubbly Bernie starts casting Death to You.

Forgetting how Bubbly Bernie got there (I think he's the zone boss of Empyreal Paradox (A) and Shinryu drops the pop rarely.), as soon as you get up, you're locked. Assuming you had your weapon out, you stop to put your weapon away first, wait for two Rasp animations, two Bind animations, a Cure IV animation, and then you're dead again. IN THE SAME SPOT.

My proposal this time is as such:

Make the speed of getting up from KO faster.

This could've been a general complaint about "Cure Lock" where you're frozen during animations that you're changing between because someone casts a cure or buff on you. But no, I'm sticking entirely with "I want to get up from being dead faster and not be frozen for 20 seconds while everything kills me again."

I thank you for your time.

All the need to do is get rid of the put weapon away animation from raise, if you raise from an idle stance you can move away a lot quicker.

A simpler alternative would be to not get aggro for 6 seconds upon accepting raise.

I agree about getting up faster, but can't you just switch gear to avoid cure lock?

No. You won't blink until whatever animation is being cast on you is finished. Blinking allows you to skip your own animations, but not animations that other people/monsters are causing on you. Weird, right?

But then how can WHMs play curelock the dead guy??? Longest I've seen is like 30 seconds of people just curing a mule so he couldn't move after raising him(this was known to all involved mind you). Seriously though, its a bit silly.

I propose instead a spell that raises you with Zombie effect instead of Raise sickness, with the added perk that mobs don't aggro you because you still look and smell dead. I propose the name "Reanimation" for the spell.

practical? no. necessary? no. hilarious? absolutely.

i can see so many well meaning people curing a "reanimated" player to death, not really paying attention and mistaking it for a raise.

This would also be acceptable. In fact, I like it so much, I'm going to edit my original post to quote it, so that it credits you with the idea still. =)

Just getting rid of "spell locking" or locking in place for any animation would do.

I could go along with the idea, though along with playing the animation faster, a new sound would be needed, as it's synchronized with the animation.

A simpler alternative would be to not get aggro for 6 seconds upon accepting raise.

Honestly, I would have made my entire post this if there was even a remote chance that they'd actually do it. A few years ago, they had a chance to do it, but instead they "lessened" the time you're spell locked (And I don't recall noticing a thing, hence the quotes.).

Since I know they won't remove spell lock, I made a suggestion that I think SE would be more likely to accept.

This could also be acceptable. Mobs pretty much insta-target you as soon as you hit the accept Raise button. You'll also notice that when mobs respawn, they won't insta-aggro you. I'm adding that suggestion to my original post.

Worst lock animation I'm aware of is a freaking corsairs roll. Locks me up for a good 3 secs or so.

We're not referring to how animations lock your movement. That's a completely seperate issue.

Well, we kind of are, maybe a bit more specialized. His point is valid if you consider someone getting hit by a corsair's roll as they're getting up from death.

In the case of raise, you shouldn't be able to move until you're actually on your feet again. I'm all for making it faster or eliminating aggro when you have no control over your character however.
