Simple Request: at least a 30 second delay between each use of this feature, thanks :p

Id say make it so a GM can disable a players yell command if they are just using it as spam for stupid port jueno fights.

As many trolls that live in Port Jeuno across all servers, a delay on the "yell" command would be an easier option.

Or do both?

Octaviane

Or not implement it at all.

I think /yell is going to be permanently OFF in my chat filters menu.

Why?

You think a shout heard across all jeuno zones is worse than one in port only? Who cares, if it bothers you that much filter it or goto your home nation.

Another option would be go in your mog house, or do something constructive in the game instead of afking for hours in jueno.

This new yell feature will be an awesome improvement it should alleviate congestion in port jueno for people waiting for shouts for a paticular seal they are after or an abyssea xp party.

Theres always gonna be some that abuse that comes with the feature but if your conserned about them you could always blist them, people already abuse shout to no end. Only thing a dread is seeing more of the dhamel jokes that plague bismarcks port jueno now, will soon be happening in all of jueno.

Hopefully /yell doesn't extend to inside our mog houses.

This update will be a nothing really, it won't be a global chat channel it is just going to be all 4 jeuno zones. If you don't care to hear it filter it or go somewhere else, the only reason to be in any jeuno zone at all is for the shouts, home nations give AH and Aby NPCs.

Agreed, but remember their just gonna start with implemanting it in jueno, and depending how it gos, they have plans to make it work in home nations as well. Shouldn't really make a differance though if they added that now or later people are still gonna stay in jueno for shouts + convience of travel and it won't serve much purpose anywhere else. I don't see people leaving jueno unless the magian moogles are added to the home nations as well.

Personally Im finding I dont visit Jeuno as much as I visit my home nation now. The introduction of the AH and maw teleporters to the home nation and the ability to use the op warps means its much easier to stay at home than go to Jeuno. Only when Im bored to I go check out the bazaars and listen to the shouts in Jeuno which isnt very often. Even my mule went back home. Much rather use the shops in the home nation too.

I'm not against a "Yell" chat command and i don't want to have to filter it, however some ppl already abuse the shout command spamming every 5 secs looking for a tele, looking for a party, wanting to buy something, etc

A delay on the time between each "yell" from a single person might help keep it from being a flying spam fest onscreen.

Don't want to wait between each time you can use "yell", then use shout.

This is Square, you really think they meant it's going to be shared yell?

It will be 4 seperate yell channels for the 3 nations and jeuno, shouting in jeuno won't be heard anywhere but there.

you do not need to call out the developers for your post to get read. In fact, it makes your post less likely to be read.

and yell doesn't need a cooldown. Just filter it, or blacklist the people abusing it if you don't want to see it.

Um no, I just came back to FFXI and rerolled, I could barely function in Port Jeuno when I was doing some nation mission or job quests, i forget which. I shouted "why does the entire server have to AFK in port jueuno" and right away I got replies in shout saying 'go fk yourself', 'get lost, youre an idiot', 'you are not worthy of this game just logout and kill yourself' lol.

Putting dev in the post won't disuade paid staff from reading them.

They don't reply to the vast majority of posts no matter what you put in the title, simply because they have to get confirmation for everything they reply to that isn't simple stuff.

Delay timers on chat never work. Do you know what happens when you do that? People will message every chance they get which will result in a lot of text at once, making it nearly impossible to find what you're looking for without fullscreening the chat box.

This is Square, you really think they meant it's going to be shared yell?

It will be 4 seperate yell channels for the 3 nations and jeuno, shouting in jeuno won't be heard anywhere but there.

With enough persuasion they probably will make yell a sort of global chat. The reason why people want to remain in jeuno is so they can hear the shout, which will kinda be fixed when they add yell to that region. Depending on how things go I see two things happening.
-They'll make unique yells for each town area
-They'll make "yell" universal working in the areas that have the abyssea npcs.

Since the general hub for people to hang out are normally where the abyssea NPCs lie I feel that they may consider changing it from a yell that works through the whole town zone and focus more on having it work in the areas that have abyssea NPCs. Though I do see the problem with that people may be reluctant to leave those areas thinking they may miss out on something where a universal yell would be nice.

Only other thing I can imagine, depending on how much stress it actually puts in the system is this
Port Jeuno Yell=All Jeuno zones, Port Bastok, Windy water, Port sandy and Whitegate.
Port Bastok= All bastok areas
Windy Waters= All windy areas
Port Sandy=All sandy areas
Whitegate=Al zhabi and port jeuno

Basically WG and port jeuno would be able to yell at one another, Port jeuno could be a central hub where leaders go to gather members, then upon gaining interest from people in other towns they could have someone there yell to gain interest to anyone who may be in those towns.

At least I think this would be the least stressful way on the server. it would kind of limit the amount of information being sent.
Port Jeuno would span across 8 zones
Bastok=4 zones
Windy=4 zones
Sandy=4 zones
Whitegate=3 zones

If it was expanded to more such as Selbina/Rabao/mhaura/Norg/Safehold I think that would be to much. Overall those zones don't see much activity to warrant yelling for any help.The above however does have a decent amount of occupancy as well as guilds where people may be working on skilling up when they hear of a yell that they may be interested in.

It'll be interesting to see how the first yell setup works out and how much stress it puts on the server. Hopefully it doesn't cause to many issue and they can actually integrate it in a way that'll make getting things done in game a lot smoother.

To OP: I agree. If they want to brag/fight they should be able to do that in /shouts in jeuno or wherever the 'hangout' is without annoying people in other parts of the server. Also, I'm hoping that it at least doesn't ever extend to out-of-city zones if there isn't a delay placed on it as those fights and spam would potentially disturb people trying to do events or enjoy the game's content and, call me lazy, but I just don't feel like having to filter yells every time i zone out to do something productive in game. If I'm just idle or crafting, I don't mind them, but if I'm with a group doing a mission or nm fight, I don't want to deal with a bunch of brainless yells about how much of an idiot Randomplayer is back in Jeuno. That's a scary thought. :/

The way they are doing it is all areas that can see the /yell have to be put on the same server. I don't think they would be able to put all starter cities and jeuno on one server without it crashing.

If you put a cooldown on /yell, you'll also make it impossible to use multi-line messages, especially common among YUP YOU GUESSED IT JP shouters. So I guarantee there won't be a cooldown on yelling.

I would like this feature to be cross-zoned between all areas in San d'Oria, Bastok, Windurst, Jeuno, and Aht Urhgan.

Putting dev in the post won't disuade paid staff from reading them.It doesn't encourage them to read it either, so it's pointless. The staff themselves has said that it is unnecessary and that asking for attention will not gain you attention.
