1. Is a borderless windowed mode possible aka. fullscreen windowed possible (without use of another program)? I like being able to look up a quest here and there while playing but I also like to be able to use the full resolution of my monitor.
2. If not, does Square Enix not like (aka ban) people who use a program to force the game to run in a borderless windowed mode?
I've seen some programs that do it, but so much more as well. But honestly I don't really care about anything but a decent windowed mode. I also like playing FF XI so I'd prefer not to get banned over something as trivial as a window mode fix, if Square Enix doles out (in)justice for attempting to overcome FF XI's shortcomings.

1. No
2. It's technically bannable, since you are modifying the client. However, noone has ever been banned for something like this, unless they go around Jeuno shouting they modified the client. (Most modifications are designed to add functionality found in other MMOs, but SE can't introduce due to PS2 limitations.)

There are tools that allow you to ONLY use fullscreen borderless windowed mode, but keep in mind that using ANY 3rd party tool runs the risk of account compromise.

Yes, but it's unlikely the dev team will modify the engine in a way to allow this, since you are unable to change the resolution once the game is running.

Not for using an alternative that provides stated functionality.

Don't worry about it. As long as you don't give yourself an advantage that breaks the rules of the game (i.e. altering game speed, accessing map areas that are impossible to reach, etc) you aren't considered to be in violation of the rules.
