View Full Version : FFXI-3113 Protocol Timeout error

I've been having this problem for the past couple of weeks.

I log in and navigate POL viewer just fine, but I can't seem to log into FFXI. It stops at "Setting up connection" until it times out.

I'm thinking it's the ISP because I've attempted to log in at my g/f's house and a friend's house w/ the same ISP...

Hurray for crappy on-base internet...

Dunno if anyone can assist here - I live in Kadena AB, Okinawa using Mediatti as my ISP, if that helps some. xD

Actually this does help because i live there too and am having the same problem on all 4 platforms.... its been like this for almost 2 weeks now for me.Mediatti broadband sux,and everytime i call their tech support i get this unenthusiastic guy named Victor who seems reluctant in anyway ta help or give advice... im losing my mind.I unplugged modem,vonage modem,and router for 30 mins,plugged back in, an i was able to get in,but then my pc had updates an automatically restarted.now im back to square one again....

Oh an it turns out enough ppl on Kadena complained about an reported this to Mediatti that they say they are workin on it an that Playonline is filtering them so Mediatti needs ta figure out how ta communicate with playonline ta resolve this issue.And that it will be resolved soon... meaning whenever they get to it....... so i wouldnt plan on playing this weekend.

We’re sorry for the problems you are experiencing while trying to log into the game. At this point in time, we’re not undergoing any scheduled or emergency world maintenance. You also indicated that the problem occurs in multiple locations all under the same Internet Service Provider, which indicates that the Internet Service Provider could be the source of the problem. They may be conducting some sort of network maintenance or other services.

In a situation such as this, we’d recommend first trying to connect from another location, one not serviced by that particular Internet Service Provider. This will help narrow down whether the issue is being caused by that Internet Service Provider, or some other issues.

If the problem does not occur when you try to connect from a location serviced by a different Internet Service Provider, then that would indicate that the problem lies with that Internet Service Provider, and we can only recommend contacting and working with them to try to locate and resolve whatever is occurring in their network that is preventing you from connecting to FINAL FANTASY XI.

However if the problem continues to occur, even when attempting to connect from a location serviced by a different Internet Service Provider, then that indicates that the cause of the problem is something else, and we would need more information before we’d be able to try to assist you further.

If that’s the case, please review the general forum rules on posting, and provide us with the information as detailed in the forum rules, and we’ll be able to assist you further.

Well the actual problem is that Playonline/SE was/is filtering my isp(Mediatti Broadband,Kadena airbase,Okinawa Japan) so my isp needs ta figure out how ta communicate with Playonline about this issue.Hence forth,its not on my end,lol.But thank you^^

Ok this is getting out of hand an im gettin pissed.STOP FILTERING MY ISP!!!! yea great the servers are back up,but i still cant f**kin play.I HAVENT BEEN ABLE TA PLAY FOR 5 WEEX NOW!!!.U have no idea the level of frustration this is causing an addict like me.This is complete Goddamn bulls**t!! I pay my 13 bux a month and i pay for both my brothers accounts as well,so u get payed 3x's by me,and on top of that im a us army soldier,this is how u treat soldiers?! I live in japan so do i need ta go ta the Tokyo office an scream an yell in Japanese or come ta come the office in So Cal? I grew up in San Diego so i know where ur SoCal office is and ill come in there an yell an scream in english. What is it gonna take? I just wanna play my goddamn game!!!!! FIX UR SH*T!!!

Not a relly good way to make a post Siros, but yeah I understand your frustration. I can agree that its players that are on Okinawa using Mediatti are having this situation. It stopped awhile back but then servers went down do to the earthquake and the problem came up again. Playonline works fine, but when FFXI launches, it freezes everytime at "Setting up connection" and then POL FFXI-3113 happens. I am able to get in every once in awhile, but thats after attempting like 20+ times haha.

There has got ta be a way ta fix this,im losing my mind.... Can a GM plz read an respond ta this thread?,i would hate ta stay up past 2am so i can call Playonline when they open just ta be told that its on my end an theres nothing they can do....

This is not on my end,SE is filtering Mediatti Broadband Communications so now everyone on Okinawa stuck under mediatti cant play FFXI...

We cant switch ta another isp because mediatti is the only isp on base an they wont allow other isp's ta provide service on base so they monopolize the market,hence forth we are stuck not able ta play FFXI.

SE please remove the filter!!! how much clearer do i need ta make the issue ta you? and if you wont remove the filter atleast explain why you are filtering us in the 1st place.This is rediculous.....

I am also now having this problem and I know it's not the ISP for me. I am currently logged in on my husbands account on our Playstation 3 which is right next to the computer I'm now using that won't log my character into same server/world, same ISP. So SE this is your deal not my ISP. Please fix it.

yeah.. something funky going on somewhere out there, either between us or internal to SE. AH has been timing out trying to browse categories today.

Yanno, I just got back from deployment and it's still being a pain in the butt. It does take me numerous attempts to get into the game, tho'. That, however, should not be happening to begin with. It's either Mediatti Broadband Communications, or it could be as another user said, PlayOnline filtering our ISP.

POL viewer works fine, but when I attempt to login after accepting the TOS, it freezes at "Setting up connection" It would be nice if either end would fix it...but I doubt it at this point after 5-6 months of this still being an issue

We apologize for the frustration and confusion throughout this thread. However SQUARE ENIX and PlayOnline do not filter connections or ISPs, as some users theorize. We want nothing more than for everyone to be logged in and enjoying the game. As we’ve stated previously, if no users on your Internet Service Provider are able to connect to PlayOnline, then the problem would be with your Internet Service Provider. While we would like for all players to be able to connect without a problem, Internet Services Providers can (and often will) filter out traffic that they don’t agree with in some fashion; this is probably the case here.

So again, we can only recommend discussing the situation with your Internet Service Provider, since the problem is going to be with their service in some fashion, as SQUARE ENIX does not filter ISPs as we have been said to do in this thread.
