View Full Version : Non 3-D Secure Credit Cards

My bank does not participate in the 3-D Secure card system. I have talked to several people at the bank about this, they just don't use the system as they have their own fraud department. (Which, by the way, is incredibly on the ball.)

My question for Square-Enix is this: why are you making it hard for me to give you money?

I called the Customer Service line because I have to change my Credit Card information (BTW, awesome that it isn't toll-free, I should have to pay for all 30 minutes that I spend on hold) like I have done in the past. The customer service representative that I spoke to asked me what error code I got when I tried to change my account. I said that I didn't get an error code, because there is no purpose to go through that process when my card does not participate in Verified by Visa/3-D Secure, but he insisted that I have to have an error code. (Even though I did not need to do so in the past when I called to change my Credit Card info.) So I go onto PoL to change my card and get the error message UCS-5310 because there is no purpose to opening the Authentication Service because my card does not have a 3-D Secure password. I call back, and the customer service representative assures me that this error code means that my card does participate in the 3-D secure program, and that everyone at my bank with whom I spoke are wrong. I called my bank again, the bank's representative and her supervisor both confirmed that my bank does not participate in Verified by Visa.

The tl;dr version: Square-Enix is making it hard for me to give them money.

I am not going to throw a hissy-fit about it and RAGEQUIT. I want to give you money for FFXI, I enjoy the game and want to play it. The fact that money cannot be exchanged from me to Square-Enix is not from a lack of trying on my part. I know that they are going to add in the whole "Crysta" thing sometime next month but once more that is yet another step between me and giving them money, and it is also some time next month.

So, I guess I should ask, is there any way that I can resolve this problem? I suspect that the answer will be "Wait for Crysta" if I even get an answer at all.

...why are you making a thread over this NOW? Yeah, it was a concern back then... but the only recent news on the subject is them adding the crysta system as an alternative.

I am making a thread over this now, because in the past you could at least use the phone customer support to put in a non-3-D Secure card.

Even with the crysta thing, you will have to go through a third-party to add it, some company that I neither know nor trust. It shouldn't take this much effort to give people money.

SE is a 3rd party now? News to me.

Anyway, the easy way around this is to use a PS2, XBox 360, or a PS3 that has PS2 emulation, and change your billing info that way. I guess you could use the EU client too, because they don't have to go through this crap either.

The only reason to change over to a 3ds billing system is to prevent fraud. I guess they are having trouble with that kind of thing.

You have to buy Crysta from Clickandbuy or Playspan, not directly from S-E.

And I only have a PC, my PS2 doesn't have a hardrive. And I don't think that it even works anymore. lol

I suggest using paypal to buy crysta

you are wrong, SE does sell them directly if you buy them using paypal, which if you dont understand how that works, using paypal is almost the same as using your bank or credit card only without revealing any of your information

I have a Pay-Pal account, so that is good to know. But they don't accept Crysta yet for FFXI, just FFXIV.

Just so people know, if you want to use PayPal, you have to select the "UltimatePay". It appears that you have to sign up for an UltimatePay account, I am having trouble making a payment - they want my billing address although I have given it to them already. I will try again tomorrow.

Thank you for letting me know about using PayPal, there is very little useful documentation about it. (Although I am still locked out of the game until at least the middle of next month.)

There's a bunch of other threads on this. read them before you post.

Anyway...

From what I've heard from some friends, those prepaid Visa cards support 3-D secure. You can buy one of those, put cash on it easily, and use that to pay your subscription. You don't even have to have a real credit card this way.
