Here's a small tidbit of history in the Final Fantasy series you may or may not already know.
It all started in the early 1990s just shortly after the NES was first released. This Company was called squaresoft back then. they made game after game and all flopped and sales were plummeting on all sides. so the company decided to make one last game to go out with a bang so-to-speak. it was called Final Fantasy. This game took off and flew like a newborn bird out of it's nest. fell at first then took off soaring. The game saved the company from going out of business. since they they released several more versions of Final Fantasy and the most recent ones we love such as Final Fantasy VII,VIII,IX,X, and X-2..each one with it's own world, plot, and unique style...now here's now this history is relevant to the current sitch. FFXI one of the greatest games in their history ever made. however this may be their last successful Final fantasy ever made. I think looking back when this game has died we can all say and tell SE"You may have flopped with your last few FF titles...but you took us for one hell of a ride! THANK YOU!"
Thoughts,comments,disagreements?

Back then they also thought they (Square) were going bankrupt hence why they named it "Final Fantasy"

Final Fantasy was first released in the end of 1987 for the Nintendo Family Computer (Famicom, Japanese version of the NES)
And interesting enough, Final Fantasy aways been more popular worldwide than it's biggest competitor Dragon Quest, which aways been the most popular RPG series in Japan... :D

It was a good post anyway. Very interesting. :D
As repeated a million times; Hironobu Sakaguchi took his talent with him and most people wanting "Final Fantasy" should be paying attention to Mistwalker.
It seems like SE hasn't been able to reach that feeling of quality since he left.

From what it looks like to me is that since the merger with Enix, final fantasy games have been medicore, when it was just square soft making them the game were awesome and absolute classics but since Enix came in they have been going downhill fast.
Bring back the old Sqauresoft teams!!!

That's because that's around the time that Hironobu Sakaguchi left the company. The Final Fantasy games aren't even in the hands of the original creator anymore. Not sure the dispute that happened but he left and formed a new company called "Mistwalker." Something I found incredibly funny is one of his recent games was named "Last Story" and shares a similar logo and look as the Final Fantasy games. Wanted to try but sadly it's Japanese only.
I think Square-Enix is finally realizing how far the fanbase has fallen since it's hayday, and they're focusing more on quality since simply having Final Fantasy attached to the name isn't enough anymore. I've always been a fanboy of the series but I have to agree that the games have been kind of bleh. Graphics are nice but I really wish they would focus alot more in a storyline that draws you in, a battle engine that is fun, side/hidden quests, expansive world maps, weeks upon weeks of gameplay material, and a leveling system that wasn't yet another rehashing of 10's weird sphere grid system. I don't want to get exp to gain darts to throw at a board and try to hit balloons to gain +2 int, I just want to friggen get exp level up nuff said with the possible rare item to use to boost my stats. (sorry ranting)
Anyways all said I think the company can make a comeback easily, it's just they have to really focus on quality and expect to wait a while before people have trust in the series again.
