It doesn't add flavor the the zone. The zone is already a maze, we don't need this junk wasting everyone's time in Abyssea- Attowha. I don't think there is a single person that likes this. No one wants to wait for 5 minutes just to walk 5 yalms.
This is complete and utter nonsense. And the solution of the miasma dispersers, is not a real solution at the prices the NPCs charge for materials.
IMADBRO
I despise it. I could swear it was added with the last major update. I was either the luckiest person ever to walk this Earth up until about 2 months ago or they recently added them, because I was never blocked off before at least in the paths I was permitted to travel up until now. All I know is it is infuriating to see them now and not have "easy" access around Abyssea-Attowha any longer in a time restricted zone.
Yes I'm making the time restriction argument because despite popular belief the world does not revolve around TE farming. This was not a good idea. It was like they had to figure out something to take away from us for payment for all the things they have given us so they added more miasma. And granted I think they have pretty tame timers in comparison to regular AC but still, give me a break. I already lose enough of my time walking in circles.

It seriously is one of the most annoying aspects I've ever experienced in this game. If you're not going to remove it then at least let us walk through and get poisoned. I rather get poisoned than waiting 10 minutes for this garbage to go down. :(
Money isn't difficult to make, I'd suggest just buying the materials for the Miasmal Counteragent, or buying them off the AH.
On Shiva they're about 50k/stack on the AH. Plenty worth it, imo. 50k takes very little time to make, and it saves a lot of time and frustration with the miasmas.
I also have a feeling the miasmas have another purpose, but unconfirmed at this point.

Inside Abyssea BCNM/KSNM/KCNM I bet. :)
They're part of a quest, and the M.Counteragent isn't hard to get. Don't be unprepared and you'll be fine :)

Just get the item people, it's not hard. It was annoying at first, then I started questing it/buying the items and my problems went away lol.
Also:
It doesn't add flavor the the zone.
There's a lot of fissures and high pressure gasses leaking from said fissures, it does add flavor to the zone.

so once you buy the item you can past through that black smoke forever? or is it a quest you need to repeat everytime you wanna go through the smoke?

Not forever it would be an undocumented time before it would respawn. Have to buy multiple ones or you can craft it with the KI from the quest with 0 alchemy skill.

MMOs need money sinks, this is one of the more friendly ones since you can get around the miasmas using alternative routes.

A money sink in an MMO is when money is completely removed from the economy to avoid inflation. It's when you pay tax to put something on the AH, buy an item from an NPC, etc. Money exchanging between the hands of players is not an MMO "money sink."
Unless you're just referring to the fact you have so much money and nothing to spend it on, then yes, more money sinks are needed.
What is the name of the stupid quest so I can get rid of the black smoke!

Hazy Prospects, the npc is right by conflux 1.

gives you a lenity abyssite for reducing xp loss on death.
get the recipe to make Miasmal Counteragent:
http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Miasmal_counteragent
It's a level one alchemy recipe, so it's easy to HQ. Seashells are pretty easy to farm up, and water is cheap from NPC. The only "costly" mat is the salinator at around 4k a pop from NPC--can fluctuate based on rank/reputation as usual, so sometimes you can score them a hair cheaper in the AH.

Who in the world is defending Miasma?
I've never met anyone other than huge trolls that aren't completely outraged when you get to an area and right as you start to walk there's some smoke coming out of no where.
Why attohwa for abyssea? why? I hate that place with a passion (not to mention the two best emps are upgraded to 85 there). SE I strongly disagree with you!

Stop being lazy and do the damn quest. Its not even that big of a deal to make them, lmao.

Yes, I was annoyed the first few times, but once I found out there was a way to make them GOWAI, I've always kept a stack of the counteragents in my satchel. Problem solved.

It's rare that the miasma are even an obstacle. And as everyone's already said, there is a way to get past them without waiting.
You can remove the miasma when they remove the gates in eldime necropolis, banishing gates, weight plates, and every other non-monster obstacle in the game.
Slippery slope for the win...
I do however believe that in the Abyssea area, all the untargetable miasmas need to be able to be disabled by the counteragent.

Maybe because it's part of the 'normal' Attohwa zone and therefore logically belongs in the Abyssea version too?
Love all the whines about it in Abyssea, never seen people crying about it in the 'normal' zone .. but then I guess people went to there usually only for CoP missions and the odd HNM pop, not loot/XP whoring like they do in Abyssea where any second they're not getting their fix is a second lost.

rare for the miasma to be an obstacle? I swear it inconviently pops up everytime i hit a place it can show up at. trying to pop a vnm where the vnm gets to jsut on the other side of miasma is annoying. by the time u get around to it its moved back.
one time i was near tunga and my group moved on to some other nm. i was jsut behind them and the smoke popped between me and the guy ahead of me. of course the conflux was jsut on the other side. i went to all the paths out of that area and each one had a miasma blocking me. i seriously was stuck there for like 30 + mins at least. every time i revistited a miasma spot it was always up. with no flux on my side to even get out.
regardless of quest to get rid of them it is very unneccesary. Tho im sure SE didnt jsut add them in one update i think they were gone for the longest time because everyone was spammin the quest for fame or whatever at the start of scars. once they got their seals the quest got done much less and more miasma was up as result.

Think of it more as echo drops for a mage. If you are in danger of being silenced by a target, you keep echos on you...if you are in danger of being trapped by the moving miasmas, you keep counteragents on hand.
And it isn't a quest to get rid of the miasma, it is a quest that requires you to test a counter agent to see if it dissipates it (or something like that), and the reward is an abyssite. By doing the quest, you gain access to the recipe to make the counter agent yourself so you can carry some on you to remove it.

I agree.. get some counteragent til/if it gets fixed or whatever. I doubt making a thread about it is going to get something like that changed, you'll either get ignored cause there is a way around it already or youll get something like 'Miasmas will now lower themselves more frequently'

So the solutions to what most people regard as frustrating and breaking flow/wasting time, is to spend more time and money to counteract something that was designed by the same poor logic that created most of the "fun" in COP?
And yes, the banishing gates in garlaige were always part of the same nonsense; adding frustration and artificial time wasting. If someone is stopping you, holding you for 5 minutes and then kicking you in the shin at random and, in reality, adding nothing but pain, you don't defend this as "adding flavor cuz life is pain so the pain adds flavor to my day". You ask the person to stop holding you up and kicking you. Then you discover how much more fun you have when they don't.
I'd honestly settle for miasmas that only last for like a minute or something though.

Exactly! I don't think I would be QQing this hard if they had fixed, shorter, durations. The unpredictability of how long you are stuck there makes it infinitely worse. I always ask myself "Should I just find another way?" only to be hit with the reality that it could come down in 3 seconds or be another 10 minutes.

I'd be okay with the Counteragent line if they prevented a Miasma from respawning for at least 10 minutes or so. However, having traded one near Blazing Eruca's pop, run over to get a Rockhopper for that quest, and then run back to said Miasma and find it back up 2 minutes later? lolno. Make them combat targetable like fortifications so we could beat down the leak or something.
In general, their appearance rate has been considerably worse since the most recent update(s). Worse than the zone's implementation, even.
