Steps:
Traveling through North Gustaberg I entered Port Bastok wherein, once inside the zone, the game crashed to a blank screen. Reseting the game everything seemed to load until, before loading the zone, the game crashed again to a blank screen. Tried reseting a third time with duplicated results. I had just finished the Chains of Promathia mission Slanderous Utterings not a half hour prior.

Did you try a file check yet?
Also, PS2? Ouch...

Greetings Gilraen.
I apologize for the trouble and inconvenience the game crashing has been been causing. The thread was moved from In-game Bugs to Technical support since seems to be a technical issue. Thank you for posting.

Proves my point that SE doesn't care to give answers when it comes to PS2 issues. Almost all reports regarding PS2 problems under In-Game Bugs have been moved to Technical Support, back to In-Game Bugs then back to Technical Support. Technical Support offers no support except for the standard "run a file check, do a clean re-install". Please also note that Xophious gives no hint of a possible resolution. While the response might be appreciated, it doesn't help and so far, all the moved complaints have been ignored.

I had 'fixed' the problem, as it was the cutscene for the next mission of Chains of Promathia that was the culprit. But yes, they are making it rather clear that they no longer wish to support any console version of Final Fantasy XI.

We can only hope?
Expected response. We pay to play just like you do on your wonderful PC or X-box or whichever platform you play on. We are entitled to some answers, even if it's to say bye bye PS2, you have 1 month left to play, buy a cheap PC or X-box and continue to enjoy the experience of FFXI. I hope SE keeps us around a bit longer though to aggravate more people like yourself because if it was YOUR platform that was being considered for the heave ho, you would be all up in these Forums bitching and whining too :)

Glad you got it working! Congratulations!

Your post would make perfect sense.... except I play on Ps3. Unlike yourself though I realize that Ps2 is long past it's hay day, and is doing nothing except hampering FFXI. Considering your posting on this forum in the 1st place you have access to a pc which chances are can run FFXI just fine. So excuse me if your "bitching and whining" sounds silly.

As much as you promoted your PS3, the same system I play on by the way, it's still running the PS2 version as there is no strictly PS3 release. As such, you're every bit as affected as I am by these little 'hiccups', such as NPCs locking up and the like. If they do decide to genuinely drop PS2 support you and I both will have to use the PC version, complete with all it's security holes (something console players don't have to worry about quite as much).

That's my point. I switched to Ps3 when it came out, and it still has all of the issues of the Ps2. Consoles offer an inferior experience plain, and simple. While I have played this game on playstations since 04' I never tried to delude myself into thinking it was anything comparable to what you have when using a pc. Ps2 is old. It's outdated, and it is hampering the game. Do the right thing, and switch to a pc. I plan to myself.
