okay I'm looking for help making a Melee WHM gear set, I have Reverend Mail and a couple ACC rings, but I want to do this right so any contribution as to what decent Melee gear a WHM can wear would be appreciated

and please, I have a decent idea what mage gear WHM can wear and I know WHM isn't the best at melee but it can still do decent in the right situations

Molva Maul/Genbu's Shield(Or another club, nothing off the top of my head)/???/Thunder sachet
Zelus tiara/chivalrous chain/Brutal/4dex earring(or suppa)
Goliard Saio/Blessed mits/toreador's/rajas(or sniper's +1)
Bellicose mantle(really nothing for this slot that i know of)/goading(speed/ninurta's)/blessed/blessed

Only real upgrades from that set would be gambanteinn and Mjollnir

If you're going to melee, then firstly work on capping your haste (or having a kclub) as it will have the greatest effect on the damage you deal overall.

To start off, I'd try at least to go for 3/5 NQ blessed (hands/legs/feet), a haste belt (headlong/swift) and a haste head. Walahra Turban is possibly the easiest one to obtain. That should put you around 19% haste.... decent enough.

From there, you'll want to fill your remaining slots with either accuracy (if you're going to be eating ATK/STR food, or acc food if your skill isn't capped yet). There are numerous options available for ACC/STR/ATK in almost every slot... Higher numbers are obviously better. The Lava/Kusha ring combo is a nice ring set to start with, but isn't worth the time wasted farming them.

Then, work on capping your haste. You'll have to get your hands on a Goliard Siao, or a Zelus tiara, and then proceed to +1 your Blessed gear. Alternatively, get both, and stick with NQ. If you go the Zelus/HQ Blessed option, I hear that the ACP body augmented with Dual Wield performs marginally better...

Then work on capping your skill, and improving your accessories. Suppa. , Brutal Earring, Resilient Mantle (AMK Final fight reward), Rajas, Ziel Charm... all good pieces.

Weapon selection varies depending on what you're doing (Tefnut~), although all the standard ones apply here. Empyrean, Relic, Fake Empy, Molva Maul, STR Magian.... all good choices. Offhand, Kclub, OAT(-3) Magian, Deae Gratia, Magnus Hammer...

There's a fairly decent selection of gear about to melee with.... just remember that there is a time and a place for it. Try not to embarrass yourself.

I'm currently geared:

Molva Maul, Magnus Hammer, -- , Tiphia Sting
Zelus Tiara, Ziel Charm, Suppa, Brutal
Goliard, NQ Bless, Rajas, Heed Ring*
Resilient, Swift Belt, ASA Pants, NQ Bless

I could go about improving it, but it's a set I like to lark around on.

* - Auspice(+2shoes) + Rajas + Heed + /NIN = ~42 subtle blow... Needs more Ninurta's Sash

okay I have to ask, what is wrong with the Reverend Mail that many of you wont use it?

Long or short answer?

Overall, the more haste (and lower delay) you can push yourself to will have the greatest effect on your damage over time, and respectively, the time taken to get to 100% TP and WS.

10 accuracy won't make a difference when your accuracy is capped, and 10 evasion won't help much as we don't really evade to begin with.

It's a nice TP body, don't get me wrong.... but there are better options available.

that piece was not easy for me to get, it would be nice if SE would make it upgradeable with magian trials :(

That body is not bad... Most beginner whm melee usually have that body. If you want to play whm melee bad enough then you would need more specialized gears (e.g. add-on gear with whm melee augments). If you really want to have DD like damage capability then it would cost you a little bit more. If you really want to be the best whm DD then be prepare to sacrifice a lot of time, effort and gils.

But if you just want to try it then you can practice first with AH gears.

>> Any two decent mauls
>> head: Walahra Turban
>> neck: Peacock Charm
>> earring: Merman's Earring x 2
>> body: Your precious Reverend Mail ^^
>> hands: Blessed Mitts
>> rings: Sniper's Ring x 2
>> back: Potentia Cape
>> waist: Headlong Belt
>> legs: Blessed Trousers
>> feet: Blessed Pumps

BTW, Its really hard to be in a so called "right situation" for you to melee as whm. But there is no denying the fact that whm can melee and can do uber damage that is comparable to most of all DD's but the difference between having a melee whm set and having the best melee whm set is like hell and heaven.

The above set should give you a feel on how to play whm melee (note how all the gears can be bought on AH ^^). This setup is really cheap to obtain. If you really start liking it then you can go start getting the RARE/EX gears... Then if you really really like it, then you can spend some gils buying the +1 blessed gears. Now if you get hooked being whm dd (I dont blame you if you do), you can start dreaming of getting one of the more hard to get weapons (Kclub, Empyrian, Mjollnir). The key is to have fun doing it... otherwise getting the gears to have melee whm would make it no fun for you because of how most people frown on seeing a whm melee.

check out jarriane.blogspot.com for videos of how to have fun on whm as melee ^^.

I agree with most of what everyone else has already said about gear for meleeing, but with regards specifically to the reverend's mail, while it's a decent piece, the -5 mnd actually hurts your hexa strike damage (among others) whereas if you get the ACP body and augment it with acc/att +10 and macro it in for WS, your ws damage should increase significantly, meanwhile TPing with the goliard saio for the 4% haste or w/e is on it :)

PS I know the feelin' about the reverend mail, I <3 mine, and still wear it occasionally cuz I'm proud to have it lol

I worked so hard on my Rmail and now I don't use it anymore :(. And if for some reason you can't get a Goliard Saio (like me) and are doing limbus, Nashira body works too, but really, its so much harder to get and gives one less haste...

Dae Garitia = Diarita.

Not tryin' to be a hardcore spelling lawyer or nothin' I'm just really confused...does Dae Garitia = Deae Gratia? If so, I <3 the Deae Gratia...one of the best offhand clubs for a melee whm, right up there with str magian wand and perdu wand :)

Why do you think I call it diarita?

Why do you think I call it diarita?

It certainly isn't because you think that other people could possibly understand what you mean by that.

I had previously thought you were talking about a completely different Club that I was unaware existed, and I'm sure most people in this thread thought the same until you actually tried spelling out "Deae Gratia."

FYI, the Club's name in Latin means "Grace/Gift of the Goddess" (my memory's rusty), but you could try calling it D.G. for short. Tu'Lia knows it'd be much more informative than "Diaratia."

Evertime I say it in game, people know.

For a variety of reasons, I'm having a hard time taking this claim seriously.

Perhaps if you tried explaining what you meant to your own circle of friends, then maybe I could see them understanding you, except how often does the Deae Gratia come up in casual conversation, anyway?

back on topic, most ppl don't like reverend mail because the only real dd stat it gives you is +10 acc. then when you consider inside abyssea, you should have at least +90 dex (RR atma and cruor buffs) you shouldn't be hurting for acc all that bad.

then any situation where your fighting something so strong you need the acc, or can't use RR atma, is probably a situation you shouldn't be meleeing in.

as for outside of abyssea.. you have 10-15 lvls on... everything? your acc will cap so easily it's hardly worth considering.

of course this is assuming your club skill is capped and merited. for skillups you will wanna stack up tons of acc.. so don't toss reverend mail just yet.

I'm not going to melee my WHM inside abyssea, I don't even like abyssea, my opinion of the place is its a poor excuse not to give us new areas to explore by giving us more reskinned zones with very few new enemies, maybe I'm in the minority on that but I don't even go into abyssea to level, when I go in there its to get gear, cruor and seals, and I wont take any jobs below 90 in there
