Sorry for the nab questions, I've been searching for a while (by a while i mean hours, I'm starting to go in circles here) and learning about all the ins and outs of Synergy.
The biggest aspect of Synergy I don't understand is how to add augments. Let's use Ebon Harness for example. If I wanted to augment the harness, would I have to do it while the harness is being made, or can I do it at any point? If I can add the augments at any point, what would I need for that process?
Synergy unlocked
Fewell
Appropriate evolith(s)
The harness itself
Is that it?
Also, can I synergy augment an item that already has FOV augments?

I believe the base item is crafted through regular means, then you have to synergize that with a particular aptant to turn it into the specialized gear.
Once you have that you have to use synergy and mordant 75 to etch slots into the piece. Then you have to go find an Evolith that will fit into one of the slots, and synergize the two together.
No one bothers with any of that gear anymore though since the evoliths are mostly useless and the gear is outclassed by newer stuff.
Some of it looks pretty cool though.

First you buy or craft the base ebon armor.
Then you specialize it with an aptant and change it's color with a pigment.
Ebon Pigment(black) and Furia Pigment(red) are each others dark/light opponents, while Ebur Pigment(white) mixes both sides and gets higher evolith slots. (Yes, Red handles Light elements while White handles a mix of Dark and Light)
Aptants are relatively easy and can be obtained solo or lowman.
For pigments you usually want ebur, which is a pain to get even at 90.
When you got your prefered armor, use [Mordant 75] to etch the slots with synergy. Each slot requires a new synergy, but you do not lose slots (or installed evoliths) already carved. Slot size is random, so you want to get a smooth synergy to get the highest chance of a capped slot. If the slot is too small for your taste, use a [Revertant Singulus] to remove the last etched slot, or a [Revertant] to remove ALL slots.
You have to choose an element for each slot, so make sure you choose the right one for your evoliths.
Adding evoliths is easy. Just synergy the armor and the evolith, and it'll pop right in the proper slot.
You can only add slots to certain weapons and armor, and only if they are 'clean'. So no signatures or existing (FoV/scenario) augments.

I'm one of the major contributors of those pages, so feel free to ask me about details. If you are on the Bismarck server, I can assist with synergy as well. (/tell Kristal)

Ahhh it makes so much sence now,
I'm seriously debating trying out the furia vest (mostly for the look and the dex bonus is sexy), the NQ emp vest for thf isnt all that exciting either.
So if I understand correctly the only augments I can put on the vest are monster family related? Pretty much useless in that case, unless there are some mob family related augments that really help in abyssea (i still have yet to partake in an abyssea party).
If anyone on Quezacoatl has or can make an ebon harness please let me know on here, I will pay 200k for it if you (or someone u know) can also synergize it (with my aptant and pigment) into a furia vest. I won't be ready to make the purchase for a little while though, maybe in a month.

If you want information on the new synergy stuff, this is also a good resource:

FilledTriangleUp is mostly "Vs. family", yes. You can also add Resist Status instead.
What evoliths do you want to put on the vest?
[1] Vs. family : Attack/Evasion/Accuracy/Magic Defense Bonus
[2] Vs. birds : Magic Attack Bonus/Defense/Magic Accuracy/Magic Evasion
[3] HP/Utsusemi Enmity Up
If you want an Attack/Accuracy/HP vest, you should go for the Ebur Vest. (It has 8/8/8 rather then Furia's 8/6/5)
If it's looks you want... the ebon versions have been reused by the dominion NPC. Ebon Vest = Spry Vest, Shikkoku Togi = Kokugetsu Togi, Ebon Talar = Mederi Talar.
No furia or ebur versions yet, but I suspect SE will add those for lvl 95 and 99.
It's a shame really.. the evolith system had potential with the 'make-your-own-armor' thing, but they let it slip and die.

Ya I don't understand why.. it totally looks awesome and nobody ever wears it :/.
Just curious though, why would a thief want emnity +, (im only thf40 dont let my sig misslead you)
I just came back from a 2 year break, a lot has changed.

Well, the original reason THF wanted enmity was because their job was hate control. That extra enmity was enmity given to the tank through Trick Attack. Nowadays though, the reason is because THFs actually evasion/blink tank things fairly often. Though you wouldn't gear specifically for enmity when doing that; it would just be a nice bonus, if it's on a piece you're already using for evasion, haste, WS, etc. anyway.

Wow, thank you for the clarification :) I had no idea thfs could tank, I'm kinda looking forward to trying that out!

Well, before Abyssea, THFs did tank stuff occasionally, but it was typically done by having just the THF and a healer (and maybe a BRD as well), because even with enmity gear, THF just didn't hold hate well enough to keep it off of heavy DDs or anything. But in Abyssea, Evisceration (or Rudra's Storm :P) can easily do enough damage to keep hate more steady on the THF, which helps a lot with tanking. Though, I suppose it also helps that stuff in Abyssea is usually low-manned anyway, so typically if a THF is tanking, you have any DDs holding back, maybe running in to WS occasionally. :P

I "co-tank" with a thief quite frequently, in that we both melee and hate bounces between us. Having a second tank really lets THF use SA and TA, which is better for kill speed. It also removes the Enmity cap problem that Kyrial described.

This to me makes more sence than just a single thief tanking alone.
I just looked up evisceration :Q___

Light belt works, but so does Aqua and Dark Belt. Get whichever is easiest, or use Warwolf belt or Cuchulain's.
