Curious problem, FF14 screws with my internet connection

Hey.

I have discovered something very curious. I noticed that since I started playing FF14 my internet connection has become very unstable. I usually have about 20-25 mb/s but somtimes at complete random times it would seem my internet falls down to 9.5-9.9 mb/s and stays there. Only thing I could do to fix this was to either switch to wifi(!) connection or to restart my cpu. Today however I did some extended troubleshooting and it would seem like FF14 is actually doing this to me. I know it sounds weird, but I have tried several times, while checking my internet connection, restart cpu=fine, do lots of other normal shit on,playing some other games, surfing, facebook etc.=fine, startup FF14=fine, QUEUE for duty in the Duty finder= sudden drop to 9.5 mb/s. EVERY single time. Then it stays there even after I turn FF14 off, only way to fix this I have discovered is to change my IP address. Then it works fine untill I use the Duty finder again. I have now jerked around with this for about 6 hours and EVERY time I queue with the duty finder this happens and only way to restore it is to change my IP. The pattern is to clear for it to be a coincidence.

Please help me with this cause this completely leaves me clueless on what is going on.

I've noticed something very similar happening. When logging out of FF14. it knocks out my Internet, forcing me to restart my computer.

You ISP may be running traffic shaping, and is misinterpreting the UDP traffic (seeing it as torrent or streaming content, and clamping down throughput). Might want to contact your ISP about it.

We are having the same issue. Our ISP is not p2p throttling or packet shaping in any way that would affect gaming. They even came out and gave us a new (better) modem, new line splittlers, and checked all line signals from the street up to help us out. It is NOT on our end.

This EXACT problem happens ONLY when playing FFXIV. Every time we get a 90K, our internet (say someone else is using the net on another computer) stops responding as well.

Just because things are OK on your local segment, it doesn't mean it is necessarily on SE's end either. It could be somewhere in between.

Keep in mind that it might not be your ISP in the local segments, but it could be another group they are affiliated with somehow. We've seen situations in the past with XI in the UK where it wasn't the front end brand a customer deals with that was causing problems, but someone they partnered with that managed another segment that was dropping the ball and causing problems (there is a big thread over there about BT/O2 customers that had issues over like a 3 month period).

There is a thread stickied here for people to report ISP's that appear to be having issues similar to this. Have you searched for your ISP there, or posted the requested details in that thread yet?

I'm not being throttled now as In the first week of getting this game I upgraded my Internet contract to play this game without limits or any Peer 2 peer management.
