    English Translation Terrible.

I decided to listen to some of the Japanese voice acting for a change.
Boy, did they ever change what they say.

It bothers me a little for people who do not know Japanese.
It's not like they changed the script but the character development is altered.
You might get a different opinion depending on what they say and how they say it.

I wish FFXIV: ARR English translators would get over themselves with trying to shove in pop-culture references and tell the damn story as it was intended.
We live in a world of global communication and are exposed to different cultures.
It's not like we're going to feel alienated if you keep the original translation.

The funny thing is people (Western) tend to complain if it's too eastern or "not western enough" in the English localization.

Also, some cultural reference in Japanese may not make sense in English. This could include many various things from names, jokes, phrases or even figure of speech.

But to change どうしたの? "What is wrong?" to "is ought amiss" is kinda infuriating.

I wish weebs would get over themselves and this notion of "original intent" or whatever the buzzword it is these days. The story is the same, so what if the English text tells it differently?

~snerks~ Lol Really? That's the change that drives you off the wall?

Now I dont know JN so I might ask you more question until I hit my posting limit.... so

Does the Japanese text sound more feudal Japanese ish?

Otherwise, "is ought amiss" isn't that far off from "What is wrong". Just Old english vocab. Haven't you read MacBeth or Romeo & Juliette? lol So in context, its still the same in sorts.

i wish there was dislike button on these forum. please oh PLEASE keep your... admiration of the japanese language to a bare minimum and dont go overboard and sound like one those people that deify the japanese language above those own native tongue

(and if english isnt your native language, then i suggest tot simply switch to japanese entirely and turn on the subtitles)

I'm not admiring the Japanese language I'm just baffled that the translation of the Japanese is so bad.

English used to be the defacto language of Eorzea, even in Japan. So technically speaking it's the Japanese translation that is off. ;D
