The best thing to do is keep trying. There a quite a bit of "fixes" that have and haven't worked for people. The error is confusing as the symptoms point to corruption but the fact that trying over and over yields success indicates server infrastructure.

The problem behaves almost as if the patch/login server is under heavy load and when performing the boot check and version check it can't verify them and just errors out as a version check problem (probably a general error anyway).

It could also be a file corruption in your boot folder completely and only by replacing the files with "good" files will the check complete (why it wouldn't MD5 check the boot index, find the corruption, and repair/re download the files is beyond me. That would be far too difficult I guess. Every other company that hosts cloud data must be wizards).

It could also be a windows update problem (windows defender firewalling maybe? Update servers being overly filtered?)

Users that have this current problem can test this actually:

DO NOT LOG INTO FFXIV. Wait until after the maintenance tonight and try to log in. I have a sneaking suspicion that the server is doing some sort of DHCP reservation and DNS/hop static filtering on clients to maximize performance and reduce latency (prioritize certain connections). If the problem magically goes away, we know this to be the case and know it's a latency thing (which no one can do anything about). If not, it may be the other issues mentioned (firewall/update/windows defender/boot file corruption).

There was only ONE thing that worked for me and cleared the issue in the end: A new computer.

    Partly worked

The boot file helped me get past the icon. Initially, I couldn't do that.

Now I'm on the log in screen which is better than things were, but when logging in I get:

    Unable to launch updater

The weirdest thing happened. My sister said it worked for her so I tried it. I clicked reset in Internet options, in the advanced settings, and I was able to launch FFXIV. Does that even make sense? What does my Internet explorer 10 have to do with the FFXIV launcher?

Doesn't seem related. This is frustrating nobody in charge is even commenting on this.

This has been happening consistently for the last two weeks. Whenever I restart my computer, or go a few hours without logging into FFXIV, I get the "System Error has occurred: -24723138982" or whatever, then ten minutes later I'll get the "Unable to complete version check" then ten minutes later I'll be able to log in.

Here is a fix that has worked 100% of the time for me, as this is an issue with the server and your computer's DNS:
    1. Press Windows Key and R at the same time
    2. Type cmd and press enter
    3. Type ipconfig /release and press enter
    4. Type ipconfig /renew and press enter...wait 5 seconds for it to complete
    5. Type ipconfig /flushdns and press enter
    6. Try opening FFXIV again.

I hope this works for other people, as it is an incredibly annoying bug.

Rebooting your router (leave it off for a few minutes) will also perform basically the same function.

If you guys are having this problem, I did everything that was ever said in this forum and nothing worked..

Until, I uninstalled a virus protector my brother had bought for the house. If you have Bitdefender, just don't. Uninstall at least until you patch it up. It ruined me for about 3 hours until I uninstalled it.

I'm getting the same error. Can't find a solution online, either, and support looks bleak.
