Copied your post from the other thread into here:
If this really is the problem then that would explain why mine isn't updating. My version is stuck on 2014.01.18.0000.0001If your launcher is loading, but when you hit play you get the version check error, look at the launch version at the top. If its an old version, from January, or blank, that could be the problem. My computer that I played beta on was stuck on January version. My other PC that I installed FFXIV much later on updated the launcher to February 2014 right away. The current launcher should be 2014.02.26.0000.0001 - I simply took all the files out of the boot folder from my good PC and moved them with a USB drive over to my other PC and bang I had the current loader and it started downloading the patch. I will see if I can link to the launcher files somewhere. Again, you need launcher version 2014.02.26.0000.0001 . The files in this folder need to be updated :
C:\Program Files (x86)\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn\boot
I just copied all 8 files over to the other computer. You may not need them all, but I didn't bother checking if you only needed this or that.
what version is your launcher because mine right now is 2014.01.18.0000.0001I just started a thread on the solution - if you can open your launcher but it is not updating, your launcher needs updating. I just took updated files from my computer that updated the launcher and downloaded the patch fine over to my other PC that would not update the launcher. It was stuck on January launcher version and gave me the error when I hit Play to download the patch. Both of these pc's run win7, wired on same network - the only difference is the one that ran fine was a much later install and the one that didn't work started from Beta - I am wondering if I should install a new retail copy of ffxiv. That, as far as I can see, is the only difference.
edit - never mind saw the other post also dont post it here or the Moderators may delete the posts. Also does anyone know how to update the launcher if you are stuck at 2014.01.18.0000.0001

Thanks for this info I was able to fix it with this by forcing the launcher to update by doing the following.I just started a thread on the solution - if you can open your launcher but it is not updating, your launcher needs updating. go to Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn\ open up FFXIV_BOOT.cfg in word pad or notepad.
you should see this
<FINAL FANTASY XIV Boot Config File>
<Version>
Version 2
Language 1
Region 2
EulaAgreement 1
StartupCompleted 1
B4EulaAgreement 1
BootVersionCheckMode 0
ConfigReset 0
the line in bold is the key change the 0 to a 1 and it forces it to check version upon opening the launcher.
After doing this it updated launcher and the game fine.
