PS3 Chatting and Comminication

I was wondering if anyone knows the best way to reach out to others in your area or the town your in etc. I haven't played many other online games besides WOW so if anyone plays/has played that then basically what I'm asking if there is anything comparable to General Speak/Trade chat/LFG channel etc.

Any help on the ins and outs of communication on the ps3 is greatly appreciated.

Useing "shout" is your best bet to communicate, I am also on the ps3, also get some good friends, start a link shell or group, found some nice people to grind dungeons and etc...

i connect my laptop to my ps3 via bluetooth and use the keyboard to type, so if u have a laptop that can do that, itll help or just go best buy and buy a cheap keyboard, trust me its helpful you save alot of time

Oh I have been using my kepboard since I started the game I was just wondering the chat commands. Like when I chat it comes out as a say so I was wondering how to chat in that orangish color people are in/what kind of chat that is. Is that a shout?

If you would like to chat in other channels:

/sh for shout
/p for party chat
/ls or /ls(1-8) for linkshell chat
/t <player name> for tell (whisper in other MMOs)
/fc for free company chat
/s for say chat

I think that's all of them.

I think think the OP just wants to know the best way to reach others players

Shout: is city wide

say: players in that immediate area

tell: click on player for private conversation

etc.

Thanks for the breakdown Upokupo. I guess the chat everyone is taking in is shout and mines just comes out darker than everyone elses on my screen to show me where my shouts are? I thought that that might be shout that everyone is talking in but when mines was a deep orange and everyone elses came out pale orange/peachy I thought maybe we were all talking in different channels.
