As per a request on Levelling-Guide-to-Ffxiv-A-Realm-Reborn here is a list of Acronyms and terminology used in FFXIV and gaming in general
Adds - Used to describe mobs who are not apart of an initial encounter but join after the main target has been aggroed by either being aggroed themselves or joining after a set period of time usually during boss fights.
Aeathernet Points – These are teleportation devices that will allow you to port around town without running from place to place
AFK - Away from keyboard
Alternative Classes – In FFXIV you can level more than 1 class on the same character. This is called Alternative Classes.
Aggro - Referenced as hate in FFXIV also is just shortened for aggravation. Who the target of the attacks from mobs or boss is being sent at. Usually this is held by the tank.
Boss/BAM/NM (Notorious Monster) – Big Ass Monster you have to fight.
Bloodport - Dying to return to your home point rather than using return.
Burst Damage - A bunch of damage at once. Fire and most melee abilities are Burst damage, pretty much the opposite of DoT.
BRB - Be right back
Chocobo – The Chocobo is a mount you’ll be able to purchase at level 21/22. You can ride them around town and teach them to fight alongside you.
Class Guild – Class Guilds are where you will get your quests related to your Class or to obtain an Alternative Class
Class Quest – Quests specifically related to your class.
Classes – The type of character you will play. i.e. Gladiator, Conjurer.
DPS/DD – Damage Per Second/Damage Dealer. Also a term used to describe classes whose main role is to deal damage to the enemy.
DoT = Damage over Time: Small damage done per tic for several tics instead of burst damage. ACN are the masters of DoT
Duty Finder – Duty Finder is an alternative way of saying group matching. If you can’t find a group with the people you play with you can queue up for the Duty Finder and it will find one for you across all servers.
End Game Content – Refers to the things you can do when you reach maximum level for your character
F.A.T.E – Fully Active Time Events. F.A.T.E. events are large scale battles that take place in real time. They can start at anytime and anywhere on the map. They can also be started by NPC’s (Non-player Characters)

Free Companies - The equivalent of a Guild. A Free Company has a Company bank which members can access/use (central storage), ability to gain experience points to buy bonuses like; xp boosts, cheaper transportation, bonuses to stats. Free Companies also come with a Company logo and 'tag/title' against your name for people to see.
Grand Companies/GC – Grand companies are factions associated with the 3 different starting areas. There are 3 Grand Companies one for each starting area. Later in the game you can join one of the Grand Companies and earn points (seals) to buy unique items from your Grand Company.
Grinding – Grinding is where you repetitive killing of mobs, gather materials or craft items.
Guildhest – Guildhests are group quests that players can complete for xp. They usually consist of mini dungeons or boss fights.

HP - can mean Hit Points/Health Points or Home Point pending the context of the conversation
Hunting Logs – A log obtained after your first level 5 class quest requiring you to kill a certain number of particular types of monsters. Completing an entry grants bonus experience points.
Ifrit – A particularly nasty Boss you’ll encounter in the level 20 dungeon.
ILY - I love you
Jobs – Each job requires its primary class to be level 30 and the its secondary class to be level 15 before being unlocked through a quest. The job grants new abilities to increase the potential of the primary class allowing the player to fulfil a particular role in group content. Jobs are designed for, though not restricted to, group play where each person has a role to fulfill
Linkshell/LS - A communication tool for groups in game.
Levequests – Levequests are tasks you can obtain though-out the world that. Some examples would be; escorting someone safely through a dangerous zone and kill quests. They give higher xp and Gil than normal quests. You will obtain a certain number of allowances or tokens if you will, for Levequests daily. These can be stockpiled over time or used as you earn them.
Lf1m - Used primarily in the shout box when building a group for an activity. Means looking for one more.
LL - Limsa Lominsa.
LOL - Laugh out loud
Main Scenario – In many games known as Campaigns. These are your main quest lines. This usually provides the baseline for the Lore of the game.
Mats - Matierials, usually items that are dropped from enemies, or items gathered in land classes used by crafting classes to create new items.
Mob – Mob or Beast. A small enemy who gathers in groups usually easily dispatched and used for farming mats or exp chains.
Newbie/Newb - Someone who is new to the game
Noob - Someone who is plays badly
NPC – NPC’s (Non Player Characters) are server operated characters, not players
OP - Over Powered = Really good skill to use
PC - Playable Characters (in other words 'you') or in the most common terms in real life, computer
Pre-made - A full group of people who generally play together often and group together to complete quests, pvp and dungeons
PUG - Pick Up Groups. A term used commonly when a partial or solo group pick up additional players to complete a quest or dungeon and they don't
PVP - Player vs Player combat
Rank Up – When you join a Grand Company, you are given an entry level rank, similar to an army rank. You are able to improve your rank by doing certain quests, Company Hunting Logs and obtaining Seals.
Seals – Currency used to buy items from the Grand Company.
Stockpile – Allowing something to build up. E.g. if you earn 3 tokens per day and keep those tokens for 4 days, you’ll have 12 tokens to spend.
Tank – The class that can take the most damage and keep the Boss’s attention.
Tank and Spank – Terminology used for a basic boss fight. Tank keeps the Boss/Mobs attention, while the DPS kills it.
Tic - A measure of time, depends on the game, but usually 3 seconds. A DoT does 200 damage a tic, means a DoT does 200 damage every 3 seconds.
TT - Symbol for crying :P
TTD - Tam Tara Deepcroft (an instance in FFXIV)
Unlocking – Making something available
Walk Through – A detailed guide to the game or instance/dungeon
XP – Experience Points. Also known as EXP
Xp chain - A small bonus % of xp that gets larger as you accumulate kills on mobs within a certain time limit noted above your xp bar. Can be used in conjunction with fates to grind exp on an alt class fairly easily.
