Many people in europe will see good pings in the low to mid 100s with a good connection.

It isn't 'neither' then. NA =/= USA. North America is a continent. So if the server is in Canada, then the server is in NA.

Thanks for your patience while we gathered feedback from today's announcement.

We will have one data center that houses the North America/Europe servers. In the future, we may create additional data centers based on a variety of factors, but currently we have set up one to house the servers created for the NA/EU territories.

I know that there are some that are concerned about latency issues and I can say that we chose the location of the North America/Europe data center after conducting numerous tests from various locations and ensuring that it covers multiple territories.

In phase 3 of the Beta Test, you'll be able to choose your World freely, so please try out servers located in both the Japan data center and the North America/Europe data center. This way, you'll be able to see which fits your needs the best and ensure a great gaming experience.

Yoshida recently made a lengthy post on the topic that we're currently translating and we'll be sure to share it with you as soon as it’s complete.

Logic would dictate that in order to serve both the NA and EU region, you'd most likely need to place said server somewhere in the Eastern part of NA.

It isn't 'neither' then. NA =/= USA. North America is a continent. So if the server is in Canada, then the server is in NA.

I always thought that when people talked about North America they were talking about USA and not Canada. Either way the geography of that part of the world is not that relevant to me.

Well, to be fair, the question wasn't "NA or EU", it was:

Montréal is pretty far from a coast. Eastern NA, to be sure, but coastal?

As an IT person, I think Montreal is a nice compromise location, same latency as west coast for me in chicago area, and probally half what east coast would have got with west coast data center. Even's everyone out nicely. and gives EU about 60ms less that they would have got with west coast servers. but of course it is only speculation at this point. and remember that most of canada is located within few miles of US (100 miles I think nothing in terms of internet delays).

That's a little like saying anyone who says "Europe" really just means England.
