So, no roleplay server?

I remember we were told that the team was going to implement a roleplay (RP) server.

Apologies for the delay, I know you've all been waiting on a response to this topic.

There aren't any plans to designate a roleplay server for the upcoming World Merge. However, Yoshida did tell us "I also like roleplaying, so with the launch of version 2.0 we'll prepare a roleplay server."

Unfortunately I see nothing of the sort in the newly published server list. Does that mean we can forget about it or the server list is not final?

If there's something in store, knowing before server transfers will be enacted may be a good idea, unless SE is planning to offer a further server transfer between beta 4 and release (even in that case letting us know would be ideal).

I doubt there will be any officially labelled RP server. I think SE will continue to let the community decide on their own where to go, or stay on Balmung.

I was terribly disappointed not to see any news about the roleplay server, as well.

As quoted in my signature, Yoshi-P did indeed confirm that ARR would have a RP server.

I honestly hope they just designate Balmung the RP server, since that's where the majority of the RP community already is. It would cause the least amount of upheaval.

I don't think "RP" means what you think it means.

Roleplay community are extremely rooted on most AAA MMORPG, and roleplay servers are normally the best of the bunch both in terms of maturity of the population and lack of trolling/griefing.

You sure don't need to look as far as Second Life to find RP servers. Every AAA MMO has one or multiple.

Well, hopefully it will be implemented later. I, personally, roleplay on a private level (I'm a lore junkie and love making up stories, but I'm RP shy). So I can pretend. But for those more hardcore with it, hopefully they get what they want soon enough.

Implementing it later would be far from ideal, as a lot of people will already have their network of friends established on the new servers, and many would probably not move because of that.

Not having it at launch (which is pretty rare for an AAA MMORPG), brings the risk of having an underpopulated one afterwards.

I really feel if people want to role play, they should do just that. I don't really think SE has to officially segregate role players from non-role players. Start an RP group/free-company/linkshell with friends. At the very least that's what I intend on doing

Within AAA MMORPGs (which is what I'm talking about, but it seems to be your habit to randomly ignore part of what someone says to fit your needs) it's very rare that an RP server isn't offered.

And as far as I know, this is an AAA MMORPG.
