192 shades of ...not grey - Letter XLI

Well technically a few of them are greys but that is beside the point.

Although all races will be available from phase one of the beta test, not all customization options will be available. We're putting a lot of work into various options such as hair styles and colors (a whopping 192 shades are being planned!) based on feedback from the alpha test, and everything should be ready by phase three.

Please excuse me but will the devs please clarify exactly what the shade number entails?

Is it 192 shades all races will share across hair, skin, markings etc
Is it 192 shades per race?
With the transparent options of certain shades count as a whole new shade?

Currently you can see in the Alpha videos that Miqote F have:
16 skin shades
32 hair shades
32 hair highlight shades

But skin shades are already shared with the other races as is highlights to hair.

So, will the increased number of shades mean instead of 32 options on hair we will have more options per character? Or is 32 the set number and the palette is only increasing because the number of choices between races is increasing?

Highlights and hair are shared shades and you forgot skin and markings cute anyways

Actually, a 24x24 grid = 576 shades.

I read that as 192 shades just for hair.

At first I saw it like that, then I realized that 192 shades would equate to the addition of some really ugly colors that wouldn't really fit in the game. So I'm gonna assume for myself that when he says 192 shades he's referring to overall for a specific race/gender category for it's hair/skin/what have you. Like that 192 doesn't seem too too bad.

I think your character can change without it being an insult... after all it could be just a symbol of their growth. Realistically a change of hairstyle is normal.

Not to mention it can give your character back story... I plan on choosing a shorter tail option, perhaps it got damaged in the 1.0 final battle?
