I did solo my first job to 50 in FFXIV through leve quests because people did not do parties back then had empty LS because everyone quit so yea. This probably was the most boring stuff I ever did in a game.

Leveling in FFXIV was not easy unless you knew people to play with. I remember I use to make a lot of topics complaining about how slow the leveling process was in FFXIV. People didn't make parties they only played with their LS and were pretty closed off to any new people trying to get back into the game in the in the months after launch.

I would take questing any day over doing a bunch of leve quests again.

i felt the same way during my play time on Star Wars. I thought in first place that i could complet at least the main story. But after reaching lvl 37 i endup asking the same question as you. Why am i doing this questing over and over? Is this cycle ever end in something more fun? sadly the answer was no. So i stoped. Dont care about the main story, i couldnt take any more of those Side questing cycle from planet to planet that are basicly all the same. I had no real choice to do those side quest if i trully wants to level up. Like you say, it kills the social aspect that was good in MMO's. Even during raid me and my party never really need to socialise. It was only go there, kill this, activate this things and kills that bad guy. Then Party split up. In MMO's where you need to lvl up your character in Exp Party you have but no choices to be a bit social. My best time in FFXI was in Exp and all the cool pepeol that i have met during party. It wasnt raid, where everything is to damn focus on objective. It was in EXP party that i make the most intresting meeting or encounter.

I just Hope we can find this social aspect in ARR that make MMO's experience so great.

So if i understand. You want more solo quest instead of more solo Leves quest....they are basicly pretty much the same, the difference are one is giving you by NPC who bLa blaing you some stuff before the quest and leves quest are taking on leve counter like a contract with out the bla bla bla. But in the end they both end-up boring if you stick with that over and over.

You can still grind on regular mobs via PT or solo. Yoshi-P has stated many times that he wants to add content for people that only have 30~ min or so a day to play (leves & these new feeder quests)

I've played TERA and know exactly what you mean by mindless & boring quests, but these quests allowed me to progress in the game with little time on my hands. People just lack moderation in doing them.

Rest assured if the FF14 community is displeased with an aspect of the game during beta, it will be taken seriously by the dev. team.

    Hi Punainen,

    I used to see you around Camp Bluefog while we all waited for Atomos to appear, although we never spoke. ^^;

I hope quest-based leveling will be one new option while keeping many of the options we already had. But while quest leveling sounds nice, repetitive quests alone are just as boring as anything else for many of the reasons you stated.

To pass the time, I've been playing PSO2 since the End of an Era event, and can echo many of the things you wrote about Tera. I quickly got bored with doing the same quests over and over and over again. Unless my LS friends are around, I have almost no motivation to do anything after playing for a just few weeks.

Even FFXIV 1.0 had a huge variety of things to do if one wasn't focused on getting to endgame as quickly as possible, and I could always find something to keep myself occupied even if playing solo. Class quests. Crafting and gathering, plus their own quests. Various side quests from NPCs. I played practically every day for over 2 years and never ran out of things to do. In fact, when 1.0 ended I still had many things unfinished.

PSO2 is not a bad game. There are many good things about it, just as I'm sure Tera has good points too. But I find it very shallow compared to the FFXIV we had.

everyone who thinks questing all the way to max is fun seriously should go play tera for free and see if they make it to max level with out wanting to blow there brains out. other then confusing asking for questing as asking for a quick level to max experience then there really is no way i can see them liking it any more then grinding in a party with people.

also when it comes to only have short periods of time, they can fix that with auto grouping even for leveling.

It seemed the same with SWTOR, like being on a conveyor belt of quests (some very silly or insulting) rather than making my own way. My hope for ARR being better is based on 2 things: 1. BioWare did a lot of things badly. 2. Some FF14 devs played SWTOR.

Part of what makes a game world seem real is having a choice of different ways to advance, especially if some things require or encourage grouping. Any one thing gets incredibly boring after a while and you need a break from it.

Indeed. People are comparing apples to oranges. Or in ARR's case... rotten nasty apples with worms in them (TERA, DCUO, etc that all use game engines that are 1200 yrs old) to the golden apple of myth & legend that looks so yummy (FF14: ARR).

FF games are known for an amazing story with polished visuals. If a book or movie doesn't have a good/great story, people lose interest and quit reading/watching halfway through. The same can be said about games.

The quests in Tera are terrible though. If the quests in FF XIV are more interesting and the dialogue is fun to read and teaches us about the world It would be a lot more fun.

I've been playing TERA to pass the time myself, and I agree with OP, it really gets boring too fast. There is an additional problem that people oversee: if you decide to party, you will have to stick together for all the quest. If one player already finished half of the quests the other one didn't, they will be "wasting their time". So de-sync in levels will happen all the time.

I think for ARR it shouldn't be as bad as we will be getting FATEs, leves and the actual main story quests in addition to sidequest leveling. ARR is more or less following GW2 in that aspect, and from what I saw from the game, GW2 handles leveling pretty nicely.

As for TERA... well... the combat is fun. That's about it. The maps look nice if you stop and look around, but mostly you are just running from A to B, never (or rarely) coming back to an area after finishing it's quests. I hope ARR doesn't follow that path.

Side note: TERA US community/global chat did suck tbh. TERA EU is much better but the publisher is a failure, pick your poison :P
