    Anima abolishment ~ Thoughts?

Courteousy of ~ Soukyuu. I didn't want to take up space in Rein's thread so I figured I would make a new thread.

"-- You announced the abolishment of anima, but how will this affect the airships/ferries/mount systems?

The reason for this will be told in the main story, so basically, you will be able to use ferries and airships when you want to travel. Teleport will serve as a "fast travelling" method. For example, if you arrive in Gridania and your friends tell you "there is a FATE in Ul'dah!" and you realize you have no anima left, that'd be quite disheartening. For that reason, I think it's fine to be able to leap around the world freely.

As for ferries and airships, I'm thinking of attaching them to some content. For example an event where the airship gets attacked by sky pirates, something like that should be interesting I think. For the ferry, something like a kraken or another sea monster attacking could be implemented. That way, there should be some reason to use a ferry or an airship. What's left are mounts, which should have some use as well. I think mounts can be counted as a way to add atmosphere to the world and as a means to explore it once, and beign able to switch to fast travel after that. As a next step, I'm thinking of incorporating ferries and airships into battle content. --"

What are your thoughts on this? I really like the idea behind not having to rely on micro managing my Anima all the time. I hardly ever let myself drop below 80 in the original game. However I sort of feel like there should be some sort of cooldown. Perhaps even 10-15 minutes. There could be some potential RMT problems with unlimited no recharge Anima (Though it isn't stated at all if there is or isn't a recharge period).

The idea for having ferrys/airships as battleground content is pretty cool as well.

I'm all for this. It was really annoying when people would say "I can't go, I have no Anima", when really they were just too lazy to run/choco/airship Lol

I played regularly and always sat above 50ish anima. I tended to save it for those times when I was REALLY in a hurry (such as replacing someone in an Ifrit/Garuda/Moogle/Dungeon run).

I'm glad to see the anima managment taken away but I am a little dissapointed it appears that you will never travel beyond the first time.

Basically they buffed the anima system, making the "small world" effect stronger. That I'm not happy of.

I want to see how this will play out becasue there may be more to it then just willy nilly teleporting.

For the natural transportation I would have loved to see it be in actual use, sad its been relegated to quest/combat only - I know some people die a little inside and get ready to scream "THIS IS NOT FFXI" but if you ever played it long enough those boat and air ferry rides became a great opportunity to just relax and fall into the world.

You can still include them but they will not be the same when in your head you know you are picking the worst transportation method lol ".. boat 5 mins. teleport.. 2 seconds.." (That and the time for traveling helps fight the "small world" feeling).

Or /rageface when you're 1 second late to get on the ship and the invisible wall blocks you from hopping on...and you watch it fly away before your eyes. xD

lol! I blame that on poor coding - I always thought they should auto walk you on (if not already on). Actually much like how it was in 1.0. Though in 1.0 I hated how you couldnt board yourself.

That missing invis. wall event should have never happened.

Exactly. Efficiency will win even if it actually takes away from the game. (Pick the fun stat build or pick the winning one, most everyone will pick the later even reluctantly)

Effectively turning the game from a world into a dungeon runner.

I think most FFXI players secretly wanted to be able to teleport anywhere (I know I did). Nice at first to explore, but if you are going off routine, in the long run you just want to just port there.

I do like this, it does give people incentive to explore everywhere in this game to get all the telepoints. I assume the teleports will be camps and cities like 1.xx, so you will still have to travel to your destination to an extent.

Funny thing is now in XI there are far more means to teleport around than just WHMs and Outposts. There's Voidwatch, namely, which lets you teleport to the main cities by speaking to an NPC.

I think what we're a little worried about here is that airships and ferries will be empty for newer players. I know when I first rode the ferry from Limsa I thought "wooow! look at all the people! it's a real voyage with lots of passengers!". I rode it later for fun and felt... very alone... But in the end, the game was still fun to me. Sure it was sad seeing nobody on that ferry or on the XI airships, but at least the rest of the game still kept me entertained.

I imagine XIV is becoming like FFXII Online, except we can teleport, or "Board the Strahl", from anywhere on the map, instead of just from the orange crystals and airship hangars. Of course I hope XIV has all of the pace of XII but a much longer play span. Would rather not have to stop in a matter of weeks.

I have to actually see what Yoshi has in mind to give a real opinion, but if it is just willy nilly teleporting everywhere all the time I'm going to hate it. At that point you might as well just turn the game into a quest hub where you queue up for group and then click a button when ready to zone into the dungeon. There is zero reason to go through all this trouble to create a new world full of beautiful zones if nobody is ever going to experience them.

I agree. Personally I think yoshida should keep the anima system the same as it is now (keeping one area each area free for the few that run out of anima). It also encourages parties to form for hamlet (other than the seals for a relic reborn).
