MMO Comparisons. ^^b

Since FFxiv 1.0 went down I'm sure a lot of pple here have gone on to play other mmo's. I went back to an old MMO i used to play called vindictus. Reviewers call it a hack nd slash MMO, I dunno what that means but to me its just mega action and very dynamic. Absolutely horrible in terms of storyline but they make up for it in action, which is why most pple play the game.

After getting into another big MMO, I now value a lot of things i saw in XIV and now don't understand a lot of things i read on the forums.

Firstly, compared to a couple of MMO's I've seen out there, RMT's are almost nonexistent in XIV. I mean you see face roll names at natalan and cedar wood but apart from that theres no other place you'd come in content with pple u'd think are RMT's. In other games I've seen chat logs constantly spammed with pple selling in game gold and places where buying gold is very common, Ive really come to appreciate this about XIV.

Also, talking about story lines I've noticed how XIV has a storyline that most pple are familiar with. I skip cutscenes as much as the next guy but still I could write a paper on the GC storyline and background lore, my home city (LL ftw!) and a couple of my DOH story series. Even though we do the "race to max level nd get into endgame" here too, the storyline isn't completely disregarded and unknown by all.

Ive got a couple of other things I miss and don't miss about XIV 1.0, but these two are my biggest and i don't wanna put up a wall of txt.

Anyone got into another MMO during this downtime nd noticed things they missed about 1.0 or things they've seen in other games that they'd love if 1.0 had too?.

Been trying some F2P MMO's but never stick with anything for more then a few days. I have accounts to around 10-15 P2P MMO's but not wanting to go back to any of them except maybe FFXI but even that not really sure about going back to it until the new expansion comes out. Pretty much been playing normal games on PC till I can replace my TV and 360 while I wait for ARR.

Being sick of downtime, i went looking for different online games... gave my third try on WOW but nothing came out of that... tried AION which was just painful to begin with (RMTs were there right from the start) and just trying start TERA was a pain ( downloading patches and stuff is still taking forever), tried my FFXI account again but after playing FFXIV is just not fullfiling enough (still better than previous attempts at online games), right now i have given up and began playing Disgaea 4 which gives me Tons of hours of gameplay, and some handheld games, like FFIII on DS and KH Dream Drop Distance on 3ds...and hoping for a closed beta invite for ARR...so to conclude i just wanna fill dead hours with some quality gaming... but still looking foward to that game that will really fill them...hopefully ARR will....

I played Maplestory and now want a dragonkin type race kinda like Kaiser

Disclaimer: I am not serious about the second one but I would not be against it! :P

Aside from that, nothing really made me wish for 1.0 stuff or wish for it to make it's way into 2.0

Tried Aion aswell for a few weeks, levelling is slow I'll agree but there is some content and enough to keep you going without resorting to grinding.

However, imo what killed this game and forced it into F2P is the pvp element. Lvl 1-20 did a good job of keeping it away from you but once you got to Eltnen/Morheim you would be lucky to go 30 mins without being "ganked" by people clearly much higher level than you. The game introduces quests and campaign missions in the abyss from 25+ but unless you have high-level friends to escort you during these it's completely pointless, you won't last 5 mins.

The hardcore PvP crowd said "if you don't like it, leave". And they did in droves. Ever since they've been trying to repair the damage, including making it F2P and recently introducing the fast-track server for PvP-free levelling up to lvl 40-ish. But essentialy the game was killed by a very small portion of the community driving away many potential new players, which is a shame since there's a hell of a lot of PvE content.

And the goldseller spam is horrendous, takes up 80% of the chat.

I know right!. Ive never once seen someone shouting selling gil in XIV and its SOO common in other MMO's.

I also tried some other MMOs F2P, P2P, tried some PvP and WvW... I just couldn't stick with any of them. Well, except for the one I've been playing for 8 years but it's F2P and is really easy to slip in and out for an hour of mindless fun. There is no story, just a bunch of people playing the same game.

At this point I'm down to Angry Birds and Words with Friends...

I've been bouncing around to games like a kid in a candy store. And I am completely unfulfilled. Last Story is pretty awesome though, but I don't have a lot of PS3/Wii access and am stuck to my PC for my gaming for a little while.
