    Future of Hamlet Defense

I have been mulling over the Hamlet defense stuff for a bit now, ever since Yoshi-P said something about them being like the F.A.T.E. (Full Active Time Event).

Here's the idea I had about Hamlet defense. If no one defends it then the hamlet falls and is either occupied or destroyed. If occupied, then we need to invade it to recapture. If destroyed then we need to evict them and rebuild. That could be mass content for the crafting classes, rebuild the town! give them more of a purpose than just equipment and personal houses. It would have to be a once a month thing or something like that, not an everyday occurrence.

I know it wouldnt be a simple as that but its a concept or idea that they could or maybe already have tossed around.

    What would you guys think?

EDIT: Territory wars. Give GC bonuses for the people enlisted depending on how many hamlets they have or special items for sale using seals depending on how many they have. Also add in taking over beastmen strongholds as an Invasion, sort of the proactive counterpart to he Hamlet Defense.

EDIT 2: I recall hearing that the FC's will be limited to like 120 people or something like that. This would only be viable, in my mind, if FC's were larger and you could build your FC headquarters on/around existing outposts. I dont know how things are going to be handled in ARR compared to 1.0 but my ideas were based around the F.A.T.E. system which was based around the Active Time Events in GW2; open content that anyone could be a part of as long as they were inside the instance radius.

I stick to the idea that this wont be frequent content so that control can be maintained and defense can be organized ahead of time. The GC's that gain the benefits will be the ones from that area, eg Black Shroud = Twin Adders. This will also help to keep some focus on the GC content instead of people abandoning it once they rank out and create a FC.

I really love the idea! Added it to my suggestion aggregation post.

It would be even better if the beastmen/garleans grew stronger with the passage of time, and if players take too long in attacking they'd had to do a bigger effort to take the settlement back, also that would give greater rewards... perhaps players could lose on purpose because they know the beastmen would open up a mine, so we let them do the hard work then toss them away!

what if hamlets turned into city v city (claiming hamelts and such)? I know as we leave 1.0 that cities lurved each other but whos to say after the Bahamut threat is quenched in the labyrinth that they dont go back to bickering :P

Could be the way we get that moba like battlefield someone was asking for..

I think it would be really exciting to build an npc town but what would happen if you fortify it really well? The game just starts to send stronger and stronger monsters (like an auto balance system)?

I would really love to see the npc building city idea - i just love building things. Just wonder if maybe the building and the destroying might get people upset.. like the provisoneer kind of thing in the first hamlet. Still really like the idea of losing the hamlet though, always thought defeat was mellow dramatic (I could live with losing my work on the npc town... just thought I should bring it up :P).

    You mean like XI's Campaign?

You mean like it should have been?

So basically like the past in FFXI? I dunno, it was kind of a rocky idea to begin with, especially on servers with low population. Hey, who knows. Could be fun.

This is what I was gonna say. It's hella fun for the time when the content is popular...but what happens when we move beyond the cities/hamlets? The hamlets are forever gonna be beastmen run, and it'd become hard to find people to take those zones back unless there was some kind of reward that still benefits. I could see it lasting awhile just on the basis of farming the relic stones, but other than that..

Campaign/Beseiged offered the chance at loot and exp...but both were eclipsed by newer, faster systems of obtaining gear and loot. So now, a lot of those zones sit empty, abandoned, with beastmen controlling just about every zone (at least on Phoenix server lol)

This happens for everything though... Gear, dungeons, quests (where possible). If and when SE wants to expand a system like this they can just lock the old hamlets as safe or include them in the stages of the next hamlets, castles towns or what have you.

I agree it's frustrating 5 years from now there aren't enough people to do fun old things but that can be solved through dynamic scaling , patches , and overall attention to its players. It shouldn't be a reason why you don't design content in the now.
