Alpha First Look: Video 3 - The Black Shroud

We're pleased to present "The Black Shroud," our third entry in the Alpha First Look video series!

In this video, we take look at both the Central and North Shroud areas that are housed within the Black Shroud, the vast forest that includes the city-state of Gridania. The beautiful landscapes of the Black Shroud include lush, sweeping vistas with exciting landmarks peppered throughout. On this guided tour through the Shroud, adventurers will visit an aetheryte camp, where they'll spot a mysterious balloon floating above an adjacent building, and take in a gorgeous view of a nearby waterfall and the surrounding foliage.

The video also showcases the fact that in A Realm Reborn the map will gradually reveal itself as your character reaches new locations.

Funny just as I was wondering when the next vid would be released browsing youtube and this popped up. Perfect timing was hoping for South shroud as I love that bgm to that zone hope it makes it into final release.

It looks and sounds beautiful. I love the look of the area, though I hope there are some more mysterious and dark parts of The Black Shroud as well.

Some personal opinions...

Many others have most likely said this before, but I really dislike the new movement animations. Falling from high distances and landing without even flinching, magically floating in place as the character rotates, and starting and stopping without any momentum. It just looks out of place in an otherwise beautiful and believable setting. I wish they'd just use the old animations.

I hope there's a way to remove that obnoxious party window on the upper left-hand corner when playing solo. It displays exactly the same information as the status/action bar on the bottom and just gets in the way of the scenery.

Jump jump jump jump jump jump.

Jumping seems to serve almost no purpose except to make me wonder why somebody is jumping. I was going to wait to complain until I saw how nervous players would be, but after seeing the Live Letter and now even this video where the PR rep can't keep from jumping, I must say that I really hate the jumping. It is really distracting. It looks bad (one should jump differently if one is running vs. standing still). It also seems like it will actually be unneeded to actually get anywhere.

The jumping needs to be fixed.
