    Capes are a must

I definitely would love to have some capes in the mix. It doesn't have to be class specific to just one class either. Something like Str and HP boosting capes could benefit multiple melee classes... and well, you could apply that for other classes that use similar stats.

Capes would be a great addition,
capes for the fighters and cloaks for the mages
the graphics are there to support it, would look so sweet the be casting Blizzard with a fluttering cloak,
you could even have up hood ones and down hood ones!
option for the hide function like with the head pcs!

Great ideas guys! How about if certain gear came with slots where capes and "materia-like" boosts could be equipped. This would add an extra layer of customization to gear stats whilst maintaining that specific flavor to each class/job's uniqueness. This would be available for mid-high levels and would be something more for higher ranked players to show-off a bit. I also love the idea about propping hoods up or down in the same way we hide headgear, giving 2 looks with one accessory.

I'm drooling at the image of my cape flowing while riding on my chocobo into the sunset in full plate armor (choco in plate too!)

I'm reviving this thread to ask the question again. Now that we have a new graphic engine and this beautiful concept art of Odin with an obvious cape: Will we be seeing capes entering our plethora of gear options finally?? Please respond devs!

There's an old saying from my server when I played UO...
"Friends don't let friends wear capes."

No matter how good you think it looks... *sigh* City of Heroes lets you wear all the capes you could ever want :P even get to fly with them.

Now if they gave us cloaks, real cloaks, not just renamed capes. I'de be all for that. Hell even mantels could work.

LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.

Can we have all three? Capes, cloaks and mantels?
    I'd really enjoy that!

I think capes are more geared towards super-heroes—like City of Heroes. I don't think it would fit in with the art direction of FFXIV.
