    No, you can't.

Actually, yes you can. As long as the GPU chip is the same series everything goes, with some restrictions. Hence why I linked the FAQ.

Contrary to what's been said in this thread, I have two Nvidia GTS 450s, I'm using SLi, and the game runs far better in windowed mode than fullscreen.

Alpha may have executable name the same as FFXIV 1.0. Which means it would be using FFXIV 1.0 game profile. This profile is not optimal for FFXIV 2.0 since it's a new engine. Manually tweaking the game profile or disabling SLI/CrossfireX may result in better performance.

I can't disable SLi. If I do, I can't make the game span my 3 monitors. For me, the best thing is to turn the graphics settings down and run the game in windowed mode.

I wasn't thinking about people using multiple monitors.

Also, for anyone interested, you can run NVIDIA SLI on some crossfire only boards. Requires a bios mod for your motherboard. Also, some MOBOs support using an AMD and an NVIDIA gpu in a SLI type hybrid mode. I forget what it's called at the moment though. Hydra or something. I'm not sure if they still make/use this technology though, as it wasn't as good as pure sli or crossfire setups. You could use pretty much any mix of PCI-E cards though. Didnt have to be the same chip or anything.

Be wary of this option. I tried it and my machine crashed all over the place until I got a real SLi enabled mobo. While it technically worked, it was VERY unstable.
