You die, you're gone. Forever
It would probably not be my main server but I would certainly play on it. There could be some kind of ladder like from Diablo 2 that shows player progression and who's alive / dead. I would also like content finder to be disabled on these servers. The community would be super tight knit. Don't hate on me just because you'd never play on it. I know there are some people that would like this so my question is, why not?
-----------------
I've decided to include here in the OP the following responses I've given to common attacks against this idea.
"No that's stupid / the game isn't designed for that / you can't roll in FFXIV to dodge attacks"
I'm not asking for devs to balance or tweak the game in any way in order to balance and make it easier for us on this kind of server. There doesn't need to be any change at all to mechanics. All they need to do is make it abundantly clear that characters will not be resurrected for any reason including lag or exploiters. This would only be a server for people that want characters to die permanently when they fall to HP 0. No changes needed to accommodate us in any way.
I think it would make sense to add a ladder though.
More suggestions from posters:
* Not a permanent death if revived within a certain span of time.
* If killed you're given the option of transferring to a normal server.
* Flee added to instances
* Lootable corpses. Dead bodies remain on the ground until looted.
* When you die in-game you also die IRL.
* No separate servers. Instead, achievements for not dying (one at 20, 40 then 50 or something) and/or a different colored name that lasts until you die.
"Why would anyone want to spend all that time getting their gear when there's a possibility it could all disappear"
It doesn't have to be fair, that goes against the idea. Yes spending so much time acquiring your gear and then losing all of that hard work would be horrendous. No one would enjoy dying. It would not be a fun thing at all to die. This is the point. Diablo 2 had this permanent death system and let me tell you, losing my level 96 necro who I had played with for almost 2 years, had very high end gear (enigma, hoto etc etc). I lost that character to a freaking TP glitching pk'er. He freaking killed me by exploiting the game. All that hard work gone because of an exploit they had yet to patch. I made a new character after he died, just like everyone else. Too bad so sad. Cry me a river. Not that I shrugged it off so easily, but I had to deal with it. That is the nature of these kinds of servers.
It's a brutal system and totally unforgiving of even simple mistakes. There's no denying that!
"This is not Diablo 2, maybe it was fine there but not here"
I don't care about what kind of combat system the game has. I don't care if it was designed for it or not. It's irrelevant. The people will adjust to whatever they need to adjust to. Guides will be written, optimal group compositions for different areas will be discovered. Things will be figured out.
"These servers would not have a lot of people in them"
They wouldn't be as populated that's for sure. However It would be a tight knit community. More likely than not, everyone would know each other. In any case, I'm very sure there would be many more players on these servers than some people in this thread imagine.
"What about new content? People would be too scared to do it"''
Yes they would scared. I imagine people would first master the fights on a normal server before attempting it on the hardcore one.
"Do you really think there's a chance this will happen?"
Honestly, no not really.
"You're level 1 that's why you want this. You don't know how easy it is to die"
I had a 50 conjurer a while back. I played this game. I was grouping and grinding nanawa mines, puks, raptors/natalan etc and ifrit forever just like all of you. Deleted him because I quit until 2.0 and want to start a fresh conj.
Bottom line
I like this reply ^ Perma death would obviously never be forced on you in any way, stay on your normal server while people who want the alternative can enjoy their time on those servers.
This thread will be largely negative I already knew that. That's totally fine, but the bottom line is that you don't need to play on these servers if you think it's stupid / ridiculous etc. But what you can't deny is that there would certainly be a community, however small, that would love it. So why not? I guarantee there would be players on these servers.
So I just ask people to consider the fact that there would be a following for perma death servers. Why not support something others would enjoy even if you would not? That's all I got for now people.
