    Permanent Death Servers

    You die, you're gone. Forever

It would probably not be my main server but I would certainly play on it. There could be some kind of ladder like from Diablo 2 that shows player progression and who's alive / dead. I would also like content finder to be disabled on these servers. The community would be super tight knit. Don't hate on me just because you'd never play on it. I know there are some people that would like this so my question is, why not?

    -----------------
I've decided to include here in the OP the following responses I've given to common attacks against this idea.

"No that's stupid / the game isn't designed for that / you can't roll in FFXIV to dodge attacks"

I'm not asking for devs to balance or tweak the game in any way in order to balance and make it easier for us on this kind of server. There doesn't need to be any change at all to mechanics. All they need to do is make it abundantly clear that characters will not be resurrected for any reason including lag or exploiters. This would only be a server for people that want characters to die permanently when they fall to HP 0. No changes needed to accommodate us in any way.

I think it would make sense to add a ladder though.

    More suggestions from posters:

    * Not a permanent death if revived within a certain span of time.

    * If killed you're given the option of transferring to a normal server.

    * Flee added to instances

    * Lootable corpses. Dead bodies remain on the ground until looted.

    * When you die in-game you also die IRL.

    * No separate servers. Instead, achievements for not dying (one at 20, 40 then 50 or something) and/or a different colored name that lasts until you die.

"Why would anyone want to spend all that time getting their gear when there's a possibility it could all disappear"

It doesn't have to be fair, that goes against the idea. Yes spending so much time acquiring your gear and then losing all of that hard work would be horrendous. No one would enjoy dying. It would not be a fun thing at all to die. This is the point. Diablo 2 had this permanent death system and let me tell you, losing my level 96 necro who I had played with for almost 2 years, had very high end gear (enigma, hoto etc etc). I lost that character to a freaking TP glitching pk'er. He freaking killed me by exploiting the game. All that hard work gone because of an exploit they had yet to patch. I made a new character after he died, just like everyone else. Too bad so sad. Cry me a river. Not that I shrugged it off so easily, but I had to deal with it. That is the nature of these kinds of servers.

It's a brutal system and totally unforgiving of even simple mistakes. There's no denying that!

"This is not Diablo 2, maybe it was fine there but not here"

I don't care about what kind of combat system the game has. I don't care if it was designed for it or not. It's irrelevant. The people will adjust to whatever they need to adjust to. Guides will be written, optimal group compositions for different areas will be discovered. Things will be figured out.

"These servers would not have a lot of people in them"

They wouldn't be as populated that's for sure. However It would be a tight knit community. More likely than not, everyone would know each other. In any case, I'm very sure there would be many more players on these servers than some people in this thread imagine.

"What about new content? People would be too scared to do it"''

Yes they would scared. I imagine people would first master the fights on a normal server before attempting it on the hardcore one.

"Do you really think there's a chance this will happen?"

    Honestly, no not really.

"You're level 1 that's why you want this. You don't know how easy it is to die"

I had a 50 conjurer a while back. I played this game. I was grouping and grinding nanawa mines, puks, raptors/natalan etc and ifrit forever just like all of you. Deleted him because I quit until 2.0 and want to start a fresh conj.

    Bottom line

I like this reply ^ Perma death would obviously never be forced on you in any way, stay on your normal server while people who want the alternative can enjoy their time on those servers.

This thread will be largely negative I already knew that. That's totally fine, but the bottom line is that you don't need to play on these servers if you think it's stupid / ridiculous etc. But what you can't deny is that there would certainly be a community, however small, that would love it. So why not? I guarantee there would be players on these servers.

So I just ask people to consider the fact that there would be a following for perma death servers. Why not support something others would enjoy even if you would not? That's all I got for now people.

waste of serverspace. You die far too often, this is not an action game, how many times does it need to be said?

Permanent death only works well in games that have that option in mind when they're creating it. Like diablo or DayZ. You need to play for a long time in FFXIV to have a character progress far enough and at the moment it's not a fun endeavour to rinse and repeat.

Like mentioned above, this is not an action rpg game. Nor some survival game like DayZ.

<sarcasm>You're right, it takes forever to powerlvl to lvl 50...not to mention all the danger involved in gathering materials to spam enter craft</sarcasm>

I for one think this would be a fun alternative. I imagine everyone would have a character on these servers and cherish them with ll they've got. The only problem I could see is running past a zone full of agro mobs that don't appear on your map til you're already dead. Once the regional servers are up and running and the new server architecture is in place for ARR this could be feasable.

Basicly at every new content the server population return to 0.
    Seems legit.

Not at all. It can be assumed that anyone who has a characted on a Permanent Death Server would simultaneously have a main charcter on a normal server, as they currently do. The idea would be to learn how to do the new content on your main character then once you've got it mastered and know the ins and outs of the new content you would attempt it on the Death Server.

How does your brain not function properly?

Oh and Matsume my good friend, I remember you. I kept running into you and waving at you and your elf chick you were always with. I deleted my main character Flan Flan a while back because I knew I was not going to play anymore until 2.0. So to the second poster, I know what this game is like. I know it would be very hard to not die. But that is the point!

So I just ask people to consider the fact that there would be a following for perma death servers. Why not support something others would enjoy even if you would not? A crazy bunch we are, but we exist.

Because SE is too lazy to make this server. This is the reason and not to mention this is the english forums which se dont care as much about as well.

Also this game isnt very skill based so whats the point of a permenant death server. Most of the time your death cant be prevented with YOUR OWN SKILL no matter how much like it can in games like diablo 3. In this game your death is prevented through a team effort. You would have to rely on your teammates to not screw up and get you killed. Permenant death would work in others games just not FFXIV. Not to mention how little people who are into final fantasy would even go on to the permanent death server.

SE IS TOO LAZY TO MAKE A LADDER LET ALONE A PERMANENT DEATH SERVER.

Are you forgetting about primals and instanced fights were a loss is because everyone died? if youre teammates die then you automatically lose because primals/instances can't be soloed. This is the main reason permenant death wouldnt work because this game is a team effort rather then being affected by solo skill.

Its also very easy to PK someone in this game too which is another point agaisnt permanant death.

There is no dodge button. The locked animations/casting also stops you from instantly reacting to death as well.

PVP server would be a much better idea then a permanent death server.
