    Gear Score, in my ARR?

    Hey,

Noticed that Gear Score was present on the game version that was shown at 25th anniversary event:

For those not familiar with Gear Score : http://www.wowwiki.com/Gear_score

What are your thoughts? Do you think people will heavily rely on this in order to invite (or refuse/kick) players with bad gear when doing certain events? Right now in MMOs, when gear is being tier'd, gear score (when it exists) or tiers are used in order to filter out players when tackling content. (i.e. : "Looking for 2 DPS for [name of dungeon], T2+ geared only please !")

So far in XIV, this is very rare, no one is asking you to have Darklight armor, relic, double meld etc. to do content.

I know this forum is usually hostile to anything that is "coming from WoW" even when there is no reason to be hostile. But even myself who usually is fine with "WoW things" (and even a min/maxer raider on top of that), I'm not really fond of Gear Score.

Gear, no matter how good it is won't make people play well :|

tl;dr: Gear Score, good or bad addition.

Note: Gear score on the current UI may only be a place holder and won't be implemented in ARR. This is still in devellopement after all. We had luck stat in XIV Alpha, it was scrapped enventually.

Will melds and the level of the materia add to the gear score? Also to do garuda comfortably certain gear requirements are needed, so all in all i's just an extra layer of info, the problems can come as how the community will use that info.

I'm indifferent towards it, because people are elitists and judge your gear regardless of whether you have a 'gear score' displayed or not.

For something like content finder I think a gear score is needed to help filter out some ppl, I know that there is very little content that has a gear check involved. But to allow blind invites to a system to group up it would be nice to have a required score. I also enjoy more clear cut delineations in gear rather then 100 side grades for every little situation on every slot. DL does a pretty good job of BIS for each class.

If it works normally, then yeah. An item would have a base score (value) and it would rise slightly with each meld.

As for the gear score and how I feel, meh. My first exposure to it was in TERA. I never played WoW but I know it was a big deal there. It was normally not a HUGE issue in TERA, but there were absolutely people who would kick you from a party if it was egregiously low.

That bothers me some, but lets face it, everyone knows that feel when you saw a bard show up in XI wearing next to nothing. I don't see how a gear score would REALLY change that a whole lot, but if they made it so certain dungeons and instances has "score checks" I would not mind too much. It will force people to make sure they take some time to craft / farm / meld there way to gear requirements that will overall attribute to a higher chance of succeeding as a party for the objective.

I think it will probably just end up taking the place of {Veteran Trade} (and other similar shouts), rather than adding new ones. People, particularly people who want to get their item now have high standards towards who joins their party. Those high standards are not going to change because it is easier or harder to enforce them.

That being said, I personally do things almost entirely for the cathartic feeling of beating difficult content. As such, I could care less if my group isn't great, it just means that much greater of a catharsis when we finally beat it. Even so, I don't think Gear Score is going to have an intrinsically negative impact without a major shift within the community.

A lot of people will cry out that this makes people become elitists or too picky or whatever, but let's face it. Everyone's been in an ifrit / moogle / united we stand / Raven fight and there's always the person with lvl 19 rings or missing necklace or not a single piece of gear melded, and you usually don't want to ask why they are missing gear, ect because people get extremely defensive. Even if you set a fairly low par, I'm all for gear score to make it plain and clear what your group type is expecting out of it's members. Just my opinion anyway =)

Exactly. The score being there or not is irrilevant, which means IMO we can have it or not have it, people will still be picky about what sort of setup they want.

    No problem with it.

As long as content isn't specifically designed with gear checks like how world of warcraft did it where it has a strict threshold you have to be above to do that content because of rage timers (essentially x amount of dps, x amount of heals and x amount of mitigation to defeat the boss or dead) I have no issue with it.

Gear score is fine as along as the systems in the game are built correctly and don't abuse it. Gear score at the end of the day should be a representation of how good you are as a player to get through content and get that loot, in other words a representation of player skill.

Sure that loot should make content more "manageable" but it should still require skill not a face roll.

I think gear score could help even if your not an elitist, at least it shows you what your gear comes out to and lets you know if you need more improvement by getting a gear upgrade or not to catch up.
