A Realm Reborn is 5 Years Ahead?

I don't think this has been mentioned anywhere else before. Sorry if it has. Taken from Square Enix's TGS 2012 line-up:

Set in the realm of Eorzea, 5 years after the devastating attacks from the Garlean Empire and the catastrophic events of the Meteor, FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn presents an adventure for players around the world to undertake epic quests and battle with familiar FINAL FANTASY monsters as they work together to help forge the fate of Eorzea.

I figured that it would be much further into the future, to explain how the landscape was so drastically different.

The good news is that our favourite NPCs (GC Leaders, Cid, etc) are more likely to all still be alive and well. I wonder if they'll adjust the story to make those of us from 1.0 "remembered", or if everyone has forgotten about us in our 5 year absence.

A hell of a lot can happen in 5 years. Remember the plan is to summon 12 gods, who cannon says consume Aether the same way primals do, or worse. We tried to stop 1 primal being out at once, 12 stronger ones are going to wreck the place.

combine that all wit the meteors, big ass spears, Global warming, the market crash and the credit crunch, It makes sense.

And if you don;t like that then well... A wizard did it.

Dalamud's vicinity has been throwing Eorzea's aetherial flows out of whack, causing many unexpected side effects. Dalamud has been chucking meteors everywhere, and is still on its way to crash on the surface. Soon, a plan will be enacted to summon the physical forms of the Twelve to stop Dalamud, consequently draining Hydaelin of its life force.

I don't think we need 5 years to see massive changes to the landscape, given all the crap that's going down.
