Gathering grades IV -> V

I started mining today after a large break, went from 21-30 by starting on grade IV then swapping over to leves at 25.

I can't find anyone who knows or has any info on when i should swap to Grade V however. From the looks of my out of leve XP I may be able to start at 30, but 30-50 on grade V's seems very very wrong to me.

You can start picking up Grade 5 leves at 35, and you get the detect ability at 38. You can move up whenever you feel comfortable.

This. Personally, I'd suggest staying at Grade 4 till level 38 anyway, since the exp remains more efficient.

I agree with this, just makes it easier to find nodes

Well I started Grade IV 8 lvs before i had the proper scan ability. I just use a map with all the nodes on it and travel a full loop, find the active nodes then get to it. It seems like a lot more EXP when doing it that way, but it may not be just due to me not being able to mine loads at a single node.

Perhaps I'm just an old geezer since when I levelled you couldn't do that. But I still think by the time you find a node you could have got more xp by going straight to it if you have the ability. Also you can basically spam leves from 35-38 unless you've used up your allowance.

grade 5 leves at 35 with exp scrolls to get 6k a gather on the SHQ leve

i might be imagining this, but it seems to me that Gridania has the most abundant "free" nodes, I'd almost run out my clock picking up all the extra nodes between leve nodes, and often found both botanist and miner nodes clustered together so id just switch around. Sometimes there's even two nodes right smack next to each other. This is of course anecdotal evidence and may not be a real thing but it certainly seemed that way to me! Also If you looking for a blind gathering spot, you cant beat Iron Lake

^ that. In terms of just grinding on grade 5, you can start as low as 33-34. I think i started at 34. Anything below that range your # of attempts will probably be way too low for it to be worth running around looking.
