Retainers gil stash didn't exchange to inventory; it vanished

My retainer had about 71k gil in his inventory from sales, and my character had 266k on him. I hit exchange and the retainers gil dropped to 0 but the gil was never exchanged over. The amount in my inventory didn't increase at all.
