    Is there a general gear progression in the game now?

    A few friends and myself are returning to finish some of the content we wont be able to repeat again - and while we are catching up and diversifying our jobs to cover as many roles as possible, I've been left with a big question:

    Is there a general progression of gear/events we should be farming to work towards the final content of the (current) game?

    When we stopped - nobody had yet killed Ifrit, so there's a lot of new content.

    Should we be use AF > Ifrit > Moogle > Insert Hamlet gear > Garuda > GC gear? You can't get GC gear without clearing the majority of the new/more difficult content - so I figured that would be close to last. We just want to be appropriately prepared - I think most Ifrit kills were first done with just materia-melded gear and Darkhold gear. Is Darkhold something that could be done... or done to just get extra GC seals?

    Regards,

    I'm sorry, I don't understand.

    I didn't mean or say grind in any fashion - but the way I use "farm" means to do anything repeatedly in an attempt to get particular drops.

    And besides that - joining into a party for stuff on Ridill seems to require you've already killed the fight, so I have the mentality that we'll be making our own static and gearing up for the fights - hence my pondering on gear that's all.

    Gear progression is pretty much get double melds > work on triple melds, and if you want to farm AV and CC you can go for darklight, GC gear is nice, and you just need to get seals to rank up, spam caravans and do GC quests and you will get enough seals for ranks.

    If you want a good weapon with good drop rate then skirmish would be good.
    100% chance for 1 weapon (if you finish the end boss) and you can put in materia.

    AF will be sufficient for Ifrit, Mog, and the final story fight. You'll want to use some double-melded equipment for Garuda, at least. Garuda is at an entirely different level than Ifrit and Mog.

    Armor Basically Goes Like This:
    Unmelded > Single-meld > AF => Double-Meld > Darklight => Triple Meld
    (some AF is as good as the best double-meld, or nearly so, same for Darklight and triples)

    Weapons Very Roughly Go Like This:
    Melded Weapons > Ifrit > Giantsgall > Mog > Melded Giantsgall => GC > Garuda => Double-melded Giantsgall => Relic
    (Note that this varies wildly from class to class and there are many examples where this progression does not hold up.)

    Thanks for that info guys. You have no idea what a quick blurb like that does - it's so helpful to have a base of "Okay, we can start here" or "Here's some stuff we should try before Garuda" - thanks so much.

    I'm WHM/BRD/BLM at the moment, and will probably focus on those three to gear. Most of us will have 3 diverse mains - about 4-6 of us returning.

    edit: I'm pretty fortunate that WHM AF is actually pretty great to start with. I picked up the +40 Healing Potency Staff, which is amazing also. I'm close to Regen cap!

    I can tell you for BLM Ifrit weapon is half decent, but a double melded weapon will beat it, I personally have a lightning brand+1 with double melded int materia, and I would go with all double or triple melded gear over mage darklight, also forget the WHM Ifrit weapon it sucks.

    Yeah, each individual class sub-forum has come a long way in regards to available information. The Conjurer/White Mage sub-forum is a great example, has terrific guides and information on it.
