Sorry if allready mentioned, but if you check out the PDF's for 2.0 it includes a part which says "Incap. System", to destroy certain parts of very strong enemies to weaken them. So i would assume SE is going to "re-do" the incap system, which i really like.

It would be fun to see more monsters use the system - specially on some bosses (where realistic / good looking).
AHHH yessss valkyrie profile.. sooo much incap. Remember that one secret character in VP2, Ceres I think? She started with Dismantle and you could rip mobs apart, it was glorious.

But yes, a true incapacitation is one where the mob cowers/flinches in pain.. maybe throwing them off balance for a second and ultimately inhibiting a skill from their move set. and there's so much room for creativity. ALSO, incaps don't always have to be helpful. I remember in Monster Hunter if you break Diablos' (a bull like wyvern) horns he was unable to get stuck in the walls when he charged at you.

Imagine incapacitating Coincounter's eye and him going on a crazy rampage lol. On the plus side you've just shot off his Eye of the Beholder

I'm sorry I just get really excited about incapacitation.

Instead of a mane dropping 10% of the time at Chimera's death, incapping the Lion head has a 50% chance now to drop a mane, but you have to work at incapping the head.
Something like this we have already, but mostly for horns. Moosy Horn, Aldgoat Horn, Antelope Horn and Buffalo Horn
You need to hit them off the head or you don't get the chance for the drop.

I haver seen this mechanic on 1 mob in the entire game.

The monk relic faction leve Coeurl had an aoe lightning attack that would trigger if you didnt incap its head/whiskers in time, it could recharge its whiskers afterwards though so wasn't a complete incap like with Chimera's tail.

I love this type of system. Take the Iron Giant for instance. I'd want to see them do something where you incap. one part of the monster that would have negative or positive effects depending on the mob but would also allow you to further go on with incapacitating other parts of the monster. So say the Iron Giant had a large shield and sword. The only way to incap. other pieces of the armor would be to first take down the shield. You break the shield and it lowers his defense but gives him access to a new 2 handed sword move that would do large amounts of damage. You then have the ability to pop his legs, body, or head. Each further lowering his defense and possibly causing further positive or negative effects. These kinds of things would make combat that much more engaging and interesting. Hopefully they do go that far it would be awesome.

I wonder if the developers have actually considered expanding on this particular point...
This is one of the biggest ways with which I can see them improving the system.

In any case, I think the incap system will be around in 2.0, especially with the number of large monsters roaming Eorzea in ARR.

    Good evening!

We checked in with the monster team and they let us in on some interesting incapacitation details!

In A Realm Reborn it will be possible to incapacitate some bosses and this will play a role in the overall battle strategy. As an example, we are currently looking into features where if you break off a monster's horn, their attack pattern will change, etc.

We are also reviewing options that allow users to target parts of the monster that can be incapacitated and make it so the graphics will change if you successfully incapacitate that part.

Finally, incapacitation can be accomplished through both physical attacks and magic attacks.

    Weee~

Please have targeting features on some bosses - loved the FF battles where it was one boss but you could "target" a particular body part (turn "reviewing feature" into a gold star )
