Hello all!
Fernehalwes from the Localization team here.
There's been a lot of speculation regarding the caption of one of the art assets released today, so I wanted to chime in and help try to clear things up.
The caption in question describes the art as 破壊されたイシュガルドの要塞. This has led to translations such as 'destroyed Ishgard fortress'. The problem here is that due to the complexity of Japanese grammar, that is not the only possible interpretation.
The following, while completely different, are both acceptable translations:
[破壊されたイシュガルド](の要塞)
(Fortress of) [destroyed Ishgard]
(破壊された)[イシュガルドの要塞]
(Destroyed) [Fortress of Ishgard]
But wait, there's more!
The の here can either represent the possessive, as in:
イシュガルド[の]
[of] Ishgard
Or it can be used to change a noun into an adjective
イシュガルド[の]
Ishgard[ian]
Considering all these things, as well as the context, probably the best representation of the original Japanese is:
"A destroyed Ishgardian fortress."
I hope that helps a little!
We're going to be able to make our own UI screens on 2.0 so you can make it how you like it.
Link It!
so does that mean its not the actual Ishgard castle?
Also I just noticed, the Female Rogadyn has long hair in the drawing!! YAYYYY long hair!!!!!!! TY SE!
Ohmagod, I just saw the gamescom gameplay footage! /MINDBLOWN
For all those who are displeased with the graphics, (which are GORGEOUS btw) guess what? You don't have to play! Good riddance.
Oh and one more thing: SIIIIRRRREEEEEEENNNNNNNNNNNNN
CALLED IT!Hello all!

I'd like to point out to people that there actually is long hair already in FFXIV. Or are people forgetting this hairstyle. So don't get your hopes up about getting that dreamy long hair.
