You are close to something but cannot yet make the final cut.

Is there any way to make this NOT happen? SOOO annoying lol.

If the item is a higher grade item, especially a higher rank item than your level this will happen frequently. Or if it is around your level and your gathering is low. The best way to avoid this and get single pulls on items are having gathering and strength up, this will still happen sometimes though.

It happens on spruce logs, level 50. Have not checked others.
    236 STR
    109 Gathering
    122 Output
    115 Perception

What should my stats be at?

Ahh R50 spruce. I see your 49, have you hit 50 yet or geared up for level 49?
You could try gathering food / and a gathering IV meld to your hatchet and a strength +18 ring and maybe felt work gloves of strength melded a STR III or something to help log for speed on NQ mats. But +1 mats are botanist's money maker, you may want to consider raising your Perception to get the good stuff (just my opinion) If you have enough gil, go for the plus +1 stuff (except output, you should be at 8 attempts now at 122 I think) It seems R50 items are always a bit tough still at 50.

Yeah I'm 50, sig doesn't dynamically update for some reason.
I'm currently at 150 perception (with food) if I'm using a perception headpiece.
    Getting 8 attempts every time.
Only ability I have equipped is Master of Timber.
The only meld I have atm is 16STR on hatchet. Have not had a chance yet to get other melds. I'll get that done today.

    Horned hatchet.
    Woolen Doublet
    Raptorskin survival belt
    Raptorskin Culottes
    Raptorskin Workboots of Intelligence
    Felt Work Gloves
    Explorer's Bandana
    Electrum Earring
    Raptorskin Choker
    Rubellite bracelets
    Rubellite Ring
    Flamecarriers Ring

    Edit:
My felt work gloves are blue. Can they be turned into of Strength or do I need the base item?

I would only suggest this for trying to one chop pull logs as it will take down your node attempts to 7 but maybe try:

Swap out Felt Work Gloves for Linen Gloves, STR III or IV Meld (lets average it to +15 STR also +15 to Gathering)
Go from the Woolen Doublet to the Woolen Doublet of Strength (+6 STR)

    Total gains
Gathering 109 > 124 (definitely enough to break a tier)
STR 236 > 257 (also feasible enough to break a STR tier)

Your perception stays the same but you lose one node attempt in the process, guess it depends on which you'd rather have.

Edit Answer* I believe so yes, a weaver may want to correct me however.

You need the undyed Felt work gloves to turn into felt work gloves of strength.
