    Mythos

When I read the Outline for v. 2.0, among the PDF documents about the upcoming re-haul that SE made public way back, and saw the announcement of the introduction of "Content surrounding the Twelve mythos", I took this to mean the mythoi about the Twelve.

But since then, I've read some comments in which people refer to the Mythos as some entities within the game lore, or as some alternative name for the Twelve Gods, not as the mythoi relevant to them. Some even call the rocks appearing around Eorzea "mythos," as the plural form of the world mytho.

Dictionary.com quotes the Collins English Dictionary thus:

mythos (plural mythoi or (non-standard) mythoses)

-A story or set of stories relevant to or having a significant truth or meaning for a particular culture, religion, society, or other group.
-Anything delivered by word of mouth: a word, speech, conversation, or similar; a story, tale, or legend, especially a poetic tale.
-A tale, story, or narrative, usually verbally transmitted, or otherwise recorded into the written form from an alleged secondary source.
I would like the moderators to clarify, if possible, whether the "Twelve mythos" are indeed new entities, and hence "mytho" is a new, and previously unknown, Eorzean word, or rather, whether the sentence in the outline meant instead the "mythos about the Twelve" preserving traditional English/Greek meaning.

    Thank you in advance.

I'm sure that they meant to use the traditional definition of the word (i.e., new lore that explores the nature of the Twelve and how they will react to the 7th Umbral Era). It seems to me that the new white stones all over the world are a precursor to some sort of minor story thread that will come to the forefront in 1.23a and later, that will lead us into 2.0 proper.

The people who are calling the white stones "mythos" apparently just have no idea what the word means.

The philologist in me wants to agree with you, but one must also admit that the use of the word in the PDF document is ambiguous. "The Twelve's mythos" or "The mythos of the Twelve" or the "Twelve mythoi" would have all been much clearer.

I don't blame those mistaking the word, if indeed it's the one you and I seem to be familiar with, for something else, since it's far from a frequent word. After all, the use the translators of the document gave it is far from clear.

I don't think anyone actually believes mythos is an actual entity. You are just misreading them.

The rocks around the world are the start of the "mythos about the twelve" because in 1.23a we'll get quests having to do with those rocks that will give us lore about the twelve.

    It's that simple.
