The moving to cancel issue is hindered by animation lock issues.
Supposedly, these are meant to be alleviated with the version 2.0 graphics engine and server structure.
If it isn't, we'll be asking again.

Ofcourse it wil cancel itself. Fire is a spell wich needs a primary target to do damage and everyone around it will be a bonus. So if the main target dies before the spell is finished casting then its only natural that the spell wont go off. This is almost the case in every MMO. To be frank it make sense. Aoe spell like flare or blizzara doesnt need a target for it to be cast. Now if you are going to use fire its only natural that you select a target wich is not the mainfocus of the rest of the party. You need to addept to the situation and think ahead when using Aoe spells like fire, Unlike blizzara and flare. And as for the healing, cant do anything about that the game doesnt respond the moment you start walking when the spell is at 40%. This is all the clients fault, too much delay, lag and ofcourse the animation lock.

Isn't it just possible to make it so that if the target monster dies, it switches to the next chained mob, and if it ides moves to the next until it hits one of the mobs pulled?

I hope they don't make the mages a faceroll class anytime soon. I can't believe people just want to be able to spam the Fire Combo as fast as possible without any real thought process. (i.e. which mob is least likely to die while I cast this?)
I see the biggest arguement being the Princess fight in Cutters Cry. But really? A good mage will position themselves to be targetting the Princess, and allow the AOE to maul down mini-ants.
The only instance I see this to ever be an issue is leveling parties, where most of the mobs die instantly.
Cool idea Duuude.If the enemy runs out of the range it is unaffected, but ANYTHING alive or dead will be affected in that range, much like how blizzara and flare already operate with yourself as the center point.
(Small Majority of FFXIV playerbase: I put that circle down, but all the mobs left it, which caused us to wipe. Why can't SE just make a system where it locks onto a mob so at worst, it at least kills something!!)

If you are curious about canceling spell casting in version 2.0 and whether there will be a specific key for this, we will be making it possible to cancel casting by pressing the jump key which will default to the space bar.
In regards to all of the feedback and follow-up questions about the OP, we will be sure to pass it on to the Development Team.![]()

I would greatly prefer a system like the one above. it's easier to see what will be effected by the AOE ability, and since it would be targetable on an area there could even be different spell effects. Firaga / Blizzaga for instance could leave a fire DOT or a area of effect slow.
Oh boy, i can see a lot of people complaining they are accidently pressing the space bar.If you are curious about canceling spell casting in version 2.0 and whether there will be a specific key for this, we will be making it possible to cancel casting by pressing the jump key which will default to the space bar.

I'll be assigning that to a key I wouldn't accidentally hit. XD It'd be like a misstell only... opsi I canceled that cure.. or ...sorry I didn't mean to do an impression of a jackrabbit >_<;;;;

I'm sorry, but, lol?! o_O That's neither better or worse than the "move to cancel" we have now. Joke aside, I know that we'll be able to jump, and although I never really gave it a though, I somehow wouldn't expect spells not to be cancelled if we jum , now that it's been brought up. I just can't believe that this is actually a forum mod post. . . . (since it's, you know, moving as well).
The biggest issue here is server lag, or whatever the proper formulation is, which will hopefully vanish in 2.0.
A specific key to cancel casting. . . . Hop, damn it, HOP!!! /jackie chan face
