Yes please, something simple like just the name. Got already all kind of search except once again, the most basic, simple and imo useful one. Don't tell me the UI can't handle it until 2.0, if it can handle all dungeons, jobs and zones and whatnot, why can't we still not search by name?

Just out of curiosity: What's the point in searching for (character) names?

If it would display the location of the player in question or all his/her class levels then sure, I could see that come in handy. But that might be a pretty hard thing to add. And if it just displays the name and current class or something... then it seems rather useless to me.

Mostly I think they (we) would like to be able to quickly and easily find out where people are. As of this moment, there is absolutely no way to find out the location of a person without asking them (which I'll admit isn't exactly onerous, but sometimes is slower). The /search function already displays the location of each resulting entry, it would just be nice to query a specific person. Really, any system would work, the /search all [name] is just what most people coming from FFXI are used to when looking to see where a friend is at the moment.

As for the subject at hand though. I must confess, I sometimes forget about the old search. Hopefully the more options they add like this, the more often people like me will remember it is there (it really is quite useful, if only more people - myself included - remembered it existed).

Exactly. And not only coming from FF11, I found in other games (WoW, Aion) the /who command very handy. It's just basic programming, not hard to add when they already have all kinds of searches in the game. If you search by zone and level you have the person you look for already there plus 50 others, now just pick out that specific you look for

Personally, I don't see why the search function from FFXI isn't implemented. It works and is very simple to use.
In the mean time, I think they should just shut off the shout function for one day and force people to use the search system as it is now.
It works just fine, people just done use it. Granted, I've never been invited to a group, but I have made party myself using this feature.
All in all, they're more likely to work/fix/improve on something players use compared to something they don't.

I dont really understand, why there is a search function besides the new group search function (which is really hidden)...
you should USE the GROUP search function.

and not the damn search relic function from old days of tanaka development. i dont understand why it is still there besides the new group search function..


really.. and this makes people (especially new players) just confused because they see the crappy search function first instead of the new function.



I say just remove the search function pls. there is no need for 2 search engines in the game..
make one out of these two..



and you should also be able to "flag" your group for seeking members, like in FFXI! thats what the new group search function is lacking of.
