Grand Company - Seperation does not equal fun!

Traveling in Eorzea I have met a bunch of new great friends, but sadly we are not from the same grand company! We would really love to do events such as chocobo caravans together, and It's sad to see us unable to earn seals together like this.

I would think with the incoming garlean forces that the grand companies would band together and try to form a strong alliance (according to recent quests) and that the other grand companies would be happy to have anyone (regardless of company) help defend their supplies. Hopefully in future patches will people from other companies be able to join their friends in keeping Eorzea safe!

Devs please tell me if my friends can do chocobo caravans together and possibly even be rewarded items from other grand companies?

FYI, the only cases where folks from different GCs can't band together is chocobo caravans, and doing the easy versions of Ifrit and Garuda awards extra points if all members are from the same GC. The majority of content can be done regardless of GC, you'll just need to find people from your company for this one event. Maybe just show up to the chocobo escort and see if anyone will invite you, you could use it as a way to make all sorts of new friends there now that chocobo escorts are worth doing

It would be nice to have access to the gear from each GC though. I was kinda gutted when the santion on my limsa axe gave +40 VIT and another company gave +40 atk power I think? I would use both of these in different situations however I'm stuck with just the +VIT.

They should add something where the other GC will give you their weapons but for a higher exchange of your GC seals, or the same amount and some gil, could even have it at a shady npc like the qiqirn, who will take the same amount of seals from your GC; along with a bribe of gil to smuggle the other GC gear out for you. I like shady things like that in games, makes it more fun and good for RP, a fantasy world isn't complete without a black market!

Sorry to dredge this up but I just returned to the game with some friends.... I think people are independently interested in different companies for whatever reasons. 1.22b patch notes indicate they did indeed make it so you could participate in other companies' caravans but it looks like it's unlocked via a much later quest. Do you think it would behoove us to agree on a company to pay together sooner or is acquiring seals not really important until later, anyway?

    Thanks!

Well, you do need seals to rank up, and if you're gonna be hanging out with these friends a lot, it might be good to go along the same grand company anyway so you can all do the same quest once, rather than needing to do three different quests all the time.

This could lead to a serious unbalance however. For example:
    Ul'Dahn Officer's Cap : Magic Oriented
    Ul'Dahn Officer's Overcoat: Magic Oriented
Ul'Dahn Officer's Gloves: NOT Magic Oriented, however Gridanian Officer's Gloves: Magic Oriented
Ul'Dahn Officer's Boots: Tiny Magic, however: Lominsan Officer's Boots: Magic Oriented

Therefore, by picking: Ul'Dahn Officer's Cap & Overcoat, and Gridanian Officer's Gloves with Lominsan Officer's Boots you would have a very powerful Magic Oriented outfit, more so than sticking with your own grand company.

Combinging form 3 GC will yield an outfit that is more powerful than from 1 GC, and this may not have been taken into consideration while creating these items. Which would mean it would lead to an unbalanced state.

Which is a shame, as some of those Lominsan outfits are very attractive (beauty wise, not stat wise), but i'm in Immortal Flames.

You're not taking into account set bonuses.

The items in my example are excempt from set bonuses (i.e., they are not 'flame' gear but 'Ul'Dah' gear which does not contribute towards set bonus).
