I keep getting pple telling to select the item and that the option will be there but it is just not there for me.

This is a big let down for me from SE. Again they go with the force u to play all class bs. I have no interested into turning gear to materia or melding for others since i got no crafting classes so why am i forced into it again?
    Hey Onidemon,

Sorry to hear about the confusion! You don't need to level a crafting or gathering class to level 18 to request materia be melded. As stated in the patch notes for 1.22: * Only players who possess a materia assimilator can make a melding request. The "materia assimilator" is obtained by completing the quest "Forging the Spirit" from the NPC Swynbroes in Central Thanalan (29,20).

This quest is available to everyone over level 18 (not only Disciples of the Land/Hand classes).

    Hopefully this clears it up!

You can also just trade the gear, materia, and catalyst to someone to have them meld it for you, but the request option is much more convenient/straightforward and the quest is just converting a piece of gear into materia. You should have several pieces of gear already spiritbound, so just pick up the quest and convert one.

Nobody's forcing you to do anything. Even before this feature, you could trade the items you wanted melded to someone and have them do it for you that way.

Some days I feel like I'm the only one here with any game design sense or knowledge of the game development process.

I heard many ppl in my LS didn't even read patch note and sometime they don't know anything about system in-game and just complaint without research.

I can't blame players too since each patch note is like an essay that need some concentration to read all of them.
It might be better for SE to add some basic tutorial menu in-game with less wording so ppl that lazy to read will understand with looking at picture only.

But if they want to know something more in-depth, google is their friend.

You will notice that every piece of gear of yours has a bar in it's status display that says 'Spiritbond', when that bar is full (there's a white swirly thing that appears too) it means that it can be converted. Once you have a Materia Assimilator (which requires ANY class at level 18 minimum, and a quest) then you can transform those items into materia by going to the inventory menu and clicking on the item and then clicking on 'Materia' (must be done on the inventory menu and not equipment menu)
